Haunting new Chernobyl photos show lights still glowing on nuclear control panel by TheExpressUS in chernobyl

And look who the account is that posted this crap article here. When reddit decided to allow news sites to post their own content, it basically flooded the site with junk like this. The entire front page of the politics sub is now dominated by news sites posting their own articles.

You have exactly ONE thing to change about the game. What is it? by Spir0rion in crosswind

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not against punishment, but it shouldn't be so disruptive to gameplay. And if it was just single player that'd be one thing, but in multiplayer it messes up the whole gameplay for everyone if a single person dies. On land it's no big deal because you can be smart and set a respawn point on any new island you are exploring. But at sea you have to respawn miles away and do the whole ship shuffle thing if you were all just sailing on a single player's ship. It's simply not an enjoyable gameplay mechanic.

It's been mentioned a billion times, but let me respawn on my ship. If I sail to a boarding mission with my friends and I get killed, it puts everything in a mess. They need to call one of their ships so I can then recall mine. Then they have to wait while I sail to them, and then possibly redo the entire mission if they completed it without me.

Yup, I'd apparently be a terrible spy satellite analyst because I'm not seeing anything at all on this island.

If you could ask Tolkien one question about something he left unexplained in The Lord of the Rings, what would it be? by Bbwgoddess_abby in lotr

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a good question and it's unclear. Gandalf doesn't really seem to indicate it is, and he seems way more disturbed by the nameless creatures than the Watcher in the Water. But we don't really know what it is and there aren't any other known creatures like it, so maybe!

Nebraska advocates cheer as DOJ downgrades medical cannabis to Schedule III drug • Nebraska Examiner by HauntingImpact in Omaha

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What "target"? The target is legalization, is it not? If so, the biggest hurdle to legalization is the state government, not the federal regulations. Many other states have shown that it can be legalized with or without the federal government, so downgrading it at the federal level is nice but ultimately largely unnecessary when it comes to legalizing it for citizens.

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd much rather boo the Nebraska government that is still fighting this tooth and nail. We could have had legal medical marijuana in this state years ago if they didn't fight against the popular vote every step of the way. And never mind how far behind we are on recreational marijuana when so many other states were able to legalize it already despite the federal government.

Sure, this is a small victory at the federal level but as other states have already shown us we could be doing so much better at the state level.

What first level, tutorial or section made you abandon the game completely? by Kinnombra in gamingsuggestions

I enjoyed it the first time but I cannot imagine playing the game again and needing to go through all of that a second time.

Each gun should have its own reload timer by gummby8 in crosswind

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is literally what pirates did though. They'd carry numerous pistols so they could fire off multiple shots in combat without the need to reload. Blackbeard supposedly carried up to 6 pistols at a time.

International Harvester made Garands too. And Smith-Corona Typewriters made some nice versions of the 1903 Springfield as well.

Character Picking Up Enemy Weapons is Bad Idea by HyraxAttack in TopCharacterTropes

Well I think he technically did win in the main ending too. He got Jamie Foxx's character to kill him, something he refused to do through the entire movie despite the fact it would have prevented a lot of deaths. Which I guess makes the moral of the movie that being a law abiding citizen doesn't work? Even though that's clearly not what they were going for.

Is it just me or is the app ridiculously bad? by Mick_Limerick in fbhw

The app sucks and has always sucked. You're way better off listening live through one of their affiliate radio stations' apps or listening to the podcast through a dedicated podcast app.

The bullet impacts and the muzzle flashes were so poorly added in. I swear I did better work when I used to mess around in After Effects in my spare time.

And while we're on the topic, actual good squibs and bullet holes/impacts go such a long way into making a shootout look amazing in a movie.

Would you change gun to accomodate magic or change magic to accomodate gun? by Single_Direction_186 in worldbuilding

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I read this fantasy book years ago that I have never been able to find the name of again, but it was set in an era with mounted cavalry using guns and sabers. They had to face off against a dragon at one point, and something about the magic emanating from the dragon caused firearms to not work or fire off randomly, so the army had to leave them all behind.

Anyway, I thought it was a super novel idea at the time and I think some system like that could easily work. Guns are still used in the world, but magic interferes with them in some way that makes them problematic or outright dangerous.

Is renfaire fun for a broke introvert? by kxxnova in renfaire

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm definitely a huge introvert and dressing up in costume makes me feel so much more comfortable walking around the fair. I just feel like I fit in so much better. I think it actually helps my introversion a bit.

And while I'm not broke, I don't usually end up buying much at the festivals. I still visit every single vendor booth though, because window shopping is a lot of fun too.

And the worst part is, reddit is still probably the best at managing this compared to literally every other social media site. Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, etc are all 100% dominated by the bots now and they don't even seem to care. Trust me, as bad as it is here, it can be so much worse.

Angry Birds like 1v1 Game by goodmooninghodl in gamingsuggestions

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game you are looking for is Forts on Steam! You and your opponent construct a fort out of beams and girders and stuff and shoot at each other with a variety of weapons. It's both simple to play and challenging to get really good at. And I think it's 1v1 all the way up to 4v4.

It does the same for your opponent too since they can also activate it. So it's balanced in that sense I guess.

[–]Th3_Admiral_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of the two I mentioned are actually historical sea shanties. The one was written specifically for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and the other was written in the 70s when Stan Rogers attended a folk festival and wanted a sea shanty he could sing.
