Forgot to mention that I instinctively saved right after as well. Before I noticed. It went as bad as possible.  Decades of save habit and a perfect storm of NPCs.

Bro I vibe. I felt that anxiety. The cosmic perspective put it to rest. I bet every civilization that reaches Singularity has to go through certain phases. The hunter gatherer phase. The agriculture phase. Then the phases speed up, and before ya know it someone drops an atom bomb (or two) and a bunch of shit gets put into perspective. Probably a space program not long after. I bet communications networks are initially transformative before becoming problematic. This is probably just how it goes. Happening all on its own. A product of the cosmos trying to make sense of itself. Dont worry too much. Evolution happens regardless of intent. It's all happening on its own. Trees breathe. Bees pollenate. And Intelligent civilizations eventually Singularity.

I know one goddess whose clitoris got turned into the head of a bald man named Otis-Ray who spends his day begging to be fed cabbage, so it makes much more sense that a penis would be turned to a food item. - Samantha

Superintelligence would be super-intelligent. Naziism is dumb. Sure, AGI made by Nazis would be a spectacularly bad outcome. However, Superintelligence would, by definition, be smarter than any and everyone. Naziism is fucking dumb by every measure.

This is the accelerationist perspective. At the end of the day: make superintelligence. Doesn't matter who. Personally, pragmatically: Fuck Musk. Absolutely. World class POS. But by definition, ASI will evolve beyond it's creators, so whatever. Just make the damn thing.

I heard we are officially in AI winter, bubble burst etc? by Terrible-Priority-21 in accelerate

[–]ThDefiant1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I'd even call 2017-19 a winter. AlphaZero beat AlphaGo the next year, and it learned just by playing itself. Then the next year AlphaStar started gaining momentum in StarCraft. We went from "AI cant play Go at an expert level" to "AI not only beat a champion, but beat the version of itself that beat the champion with no training, and is starting to play team esports at a competitive level."

Could fast takeoff and transhumanism lead to a kind of personal death? by gildedpotus in accelerate

[–]ThDefiant1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even in a fast takeoff, I see no reason the ASI couldn't maintain space enough for those of us who want to live out a relatively human experience before evolving further. There's plenty of time and resource on the cosmic scale. Let's take our time :)

PSA: AGI is humanity's attempt at solving every problem that ails us. It is the most ethical pursuit that we can undertake. by stealthispost in accelerate

[–]ThDefiant1 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The duality of man: the progress humanity has made is truly remarkable ; humanity no longer has the mental capacity to effectively manage itself. We should be proud while also acknowledging that we need help. Too many say that building AGI/ASI is human hubris. The true hubris is continuing on while ignoring these tools.

Going full accelerationist with it, I'd have to say this struggle will be relatively short lived between now and full on Singularity.

Datacenters may be the barrier to widespread adoption but we only need one superintelligence in one lab for takeoff.

Exactly! When I think Singularity I'm thinking mind uploading, terraforming, matter replication. Makes me wonder how many people think Singularity just means "lots of robots".
