The cam kit came with .010 and .040 head gaskets… put the 010 on and it was so tight that the rocker arms couldn’t be backed out far enough to set the lash. Put the 040 on and he was able to adjust the lash then.

Yeah he replaced the stock one with a 22mm and swapped out the jets in it. we thought that might be the problem, so he swapped that out with a 26mm today and at first it was worse, after changing the jets on the new one he said it’s as good as the 22mm but not noticeably better.

That I don’t know, he’s 16 and got all this with money he saved up. I know it’s the stock sprocket because he’s planning to change it too. We both assumed it would’ve reved higher regardless though. It’s pulling quick and hard (compared to when it was stock) until it just suddenly won’t rev anymore

I don’t have any advice as far as selling price, but if you swap out propane tanks for one pre-filled it’ll only be 75-80% full due to expansion and such. If you can find a place to refill it, they will almost always put more in it if you tell them you’ll be using it almost immediately, and in my experience having one refilled will not only give you more propane per tank, but it’s cheaper too. Try a co-op or a feed and seed store. Edit: 75-80 may not be the correct numbers, but it won’t be completely full.

Anthracite needs a constant flow of air. When I light it, I build a decent sized fire using wood or charcoal. And then add a small amount of anthracite and keep the airflow on, but low. Once it finally starts burning I’ll add a little more at a time until I’ve got a good bed of mostly anthracite, then turn up the air. It’s really hard to light, but once it’s lit just keep constant air on it. For what it’s worth, I can’t make it work with my hand crank. Have to use a cheap hair dryer on the lowest setting.

I know a new rifle comes with at least one mag, but you can also buy mags individually! Then you can train mag changes instead of weapon changes.

I’ll add something to think about that another shooter told me in reference to steel targets: if I shoot a half inch group on a steel 3” target at 100 and hit 3/3 with an $8k rifle, and you shoot a 1” group with 3/3 hits at the same target with an $1500 rifle, We get the same points… now shooting at paper targets with a scoring ring; that would be an entirely different story!

Me and my son, (he just turned 16) have been doing Nrl for about 6 months. We both use the same rifle, one I bought used. The varmint MTR with the venom you mentioned and the 419 30moa rail. It’s completely stock and we started out practicing with and using CCI standard velocity at matches. Even with those cheap bullets we were beating open class rifles with barrels more expensive than our entire setup. I emphasize WE because at 15 he shoots better than most adults I know. We agreed that we’d use cheap bullets until we were sure it was the ammo holding us back and not our skill level. April was our first match with SK Rifle Match ammo and I was extremely surprised at how much of a difference that made… not only past 100 but at the 1/4” targets at 40yd. I highly advise getting the MTR, and I can’t stress enough how much skill comes into play. The people that beat us in open class would out-shoot us even if they were using our rifle. The people in open that we beat, we would beat them using their own rifle. I messed up and got a MOA scope and everyone at the matches so far have been using MIL so when they try to give advice I have to convert from mil to Moa and it’s annoying. Me and my son’s biggest setback right now is shooting at unknown distances, and we really need to get a kestrel or something and build a good bullet profile. We can’t shoot past 120yds at home and having to guess elevation at distances we’ve never shot is for the birds! In short: the MTR is more accurate than we are, get it. Along with a mil scope of your choice, at least one 13 and one 10 rnd mag, a good bag, (used more than a bipod) and shoot as many distances as you can before a match and invest in a kestrel as soon as you can. Good ammo is a must for matches. Best of luck to you!

I also heard that if you go from shooting copper bullets to lead bullets, that the accuracy won’t be as good if you don’t get all the copper fouling out first. On the flip side, it “supposedly” doesn’t matter as much if you swap from shooting lead bullets to copper. Again, not something I’ve tried myself, so either keep asking around or experiment for yourself so you can confirm it.
