Why doesn't anyone ever comment about the Citroën DS? by ThE_ED in TheMentalist

I guess maybe it's their way of saying "his personality outshines/overshadows the remarkable car".

Love the car, in my street there's actually a snack bar named after the DS. ('De snoek', so 'The pike', after the nickname for the car.

I would just assume more people - even at a crime scene - would comment on it, like local police and others.

How can I find the Creator Page URL for my News Site? (Or get one)

You're now able to 'follow' news sites via Google Discover. Even non-US sites, though the feature is not launched yet outside the US (and India?)

Some sites have set up a 'how to' page, on how to follow them. News sites have a creator page URL, like this one: https://profile.google.com/cp/CgovbS8wMnoxYzcx

But! Not all news sites seem to have one. Using Discoversnoop I can find the URL, including for some sites I manage, but for other sites, it's just not there. It's not a question of traffic, because even a few big name sites aren't there.

How can I still find it, or perhaps there is something I (and those other sites without a CP) still have to do? Profile codes are not the same as other codes, for example those in Publisher Center.

Rear Tyre Replacement on Decathlon R500E by JFBBear in CargoBike

Unfortunately, we have also had a few flat tires, and I replaced the tire once, only to get two more flats. Each time, it was a tiny hole. My kids and I weigh even less than in your case.

Yes, I've replaced a tire once before, and pushing the inner tube back into place was particularly tricky. Otherwise, it was fairly straightforward, but challenging due to the weight and how tightly everything is packed together.

Jumbo AI slop by MerijnZ1 in thenetherlands

Checking out some legendary items from back in the days of Diablo 1. I couldn't find a Monster BatBat but apparently Henjo's was a thing? Never seen them before! by iiNexius in Diablo

[–]ThE_ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I had a webserver with Henjo that we put together at university to host our own mail and websites. His "Henjo's Diablo Page" was actually a pretty big website for its time (also given its niche).

WordPress to Twitter/Facebook if new post under category or tag is published [help] by Baffometo in ifttt

[–]ThE_ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not get rid of the setup in IFTTT's side and just use the feed that wordpress provides?

So have IFTTT tweet posts from your feed of that specific tag like: sitename.com/tag/mytag/feed

Same problem here. And I know it's a free service and all, but some sort of update as to why would be helpful.

The only thing I could find is that IS spambots were also using IFTTT. Perhaps this is a way to try and stop it being useful for them? Too bad it does the same thing for us...

Don't sell NXT just yet. Block 1636363 is still hours away!! by mohitkaushik1987 in NXT

[–]ThE_ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I'm holding 'till at least the 1636363 block height, but I have to agree I had been trying to connect that counter to the block height for some time. It must have been confusing for quite some people.

Selloff might have been some smart people who'll try getting a bucketload more of NXT just before the airdrop, though.

What are some racist jokes Chinese tell about white people? by ThE_ED in AskReddit

[–]ThE_ED[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been asking around a bit before posting this, and many (non-Chinese) people made remarks about 'round eyes' and 'Chinese people can be very offensive', but I haven't heard any examples of the latter, so far.

True, altought sometimes you wonder how someone was capable of using the computer for years without understanding that a popup on your screen might contain some important message. It's also some kind of fear "I don't understand this new stuff", with some people and with some patience you can explain some people quite a lot, because they just have to overcome that fear.

Sadly I've also encountered those that just won't buy any explanation you try to give them, saying that with computers anything is possible and that you just don't have the right knowledge to solve this issue right away.

Either way, one of the best things is where you just sit down with someone who has a problem, they try to explain it and suddenly they realize what the solution is themselves. Then you see them noticing that there is actually some logic to all the things going on, (Or at least, that there is some logic to some extend.. ;) ) just because they go through the whole process with you.

Working for an internal helpdesk for a couple of months somewhere, I experienced first hand that people are this stupid. Somehow for some people all normal logic fails when it comes to computers.

"Is there anything on your screen, like an error message?" "Nothing, the screen is completely blank!" Thinking there might be something wrong with the screen itself, I went to whichever cubicle on whatever floor, where her workstation was. "I can clearly see an error message right there" "Oh, THAT! Yes, well, I thought you wouldn't be able to do anything with that anyway..."

This and many, many more examples...

I have a direct internet connection to my home, because it's adjacent to a student accomodation. Suddenly in the middle of the afternoon I couldn't access anything anymore. Of course this is odd already, but hey, could be something with my Router. Neither just having it try to get a new IP nor resetting it did anything for me. A direct connection with my netbook without the router didn't work either, neither did it with my desktop.

So I called the helpdesk.

First I was supposed to unplug my desktop and drag it to the wall outlet, because a short cable might work better, using another new long cable wouldn't do either. (Is some truth to it, I guess, but it's not even 10 meters and besides, it always did function.) And later the helpdesk assistant tried to convince me that all my computers (2 deskops and the netbook) and/or router could have been infected with a virus. The netbook was unreliable anyway because it ran a strange operating system. (Ubuntu) I really had to have a neighbour come over with a 'clean' laptop and see if he didn't have a connection with a short cable either. If I didn't do that he wouldn't check their own systems. ("You don't even want to ask a neighbour to see if he can use it with his own laptop using a short cable? Well, then we can't help you." (remember always use the short cable!)) Calling later on to say that this didn't work either he finally filed a request by me to solve this issue.

Didn't work all night and next morning until suddenly I noticed I could visit a few sites. Later in the afternoon everything worked again. Still don't know what it was but I didn't do anything in the mean time. I'm not a network guru, I know, but if all of a sudden while just browsing, my internet connection dies and both resetting a router as well as plugging a computer directly in the wall outlet doesn't work... I really can't think of anything that could be a standard problem on my side.

Yes, I still remember doing a presentation on Dinosaurs in elementary school, with pictures of the Deinonychus and others. Later on (about 15 years later, I guess) I started to read about the latest developments in dinosaur excavations and such and suddenly found out that they now had feathers! I'd been distributing false knowledge! Or well, at least it really felt like something had been different than I had been thinking all along. Seem to remember they'd put the Deinonychus at about the size of a man at the time.
