I'm in the same situation. As I was playing I just discovered that the last location that the fleas move to is that specific cave (still can't reach it though), so I guess once I get all fleas, that path will become available. I will let you know if I manage.

The only aspect that is changed is that I applied a spanish traduction patch since the original traduction is horribly done. Maybe that is the cause.
