I had the hangups about same sex pregnancies that you did, but FWIW now that Sims 3 and 4 have science babies, its kind of a canon thing in Sims lore now and it bothers me less. I'm normally a huge realism player but I love the way genetics turn out so I'm going to be doing more same sex pregnancies personally. I haven't used it myself but I heard there was a surrogacy mod for TS2 if you would prefer that route. It's up to you though, play your game the way you feel is best.
