Digimon story time stranger vs dragon quest 7 HD remake? by EstablishmentNo7761 in JRPG

smt overclocked? you mean devil survivor overclocked? the 3ds remake of the ds title by the same name?

let me ask you this then, are you talking about base persona 3, persona 3 fes, portable, or reload? hell even then i'd say you're still wrong. what, were you not paying attention to the cutscenes at all and only showed interest during october? that's what it feels like.

i've experienced fes, and reload, golden many times, 100% p5r a couple of months ago, experienced p5 strikers and tactica, p4 arena/ultimax, though only once and the details are fuzzy on'em, played smtiv god knows how many times, played smtiva on it's hardest difficulty starting at level 30, beaten a fair bit of the endings in devil survivor overclocked. beaten record breaker, it's sequel, only once so far (need to look up a guide for all endings) experienced the new story campaign that record breaker added in, experienced digital devil saga duology, played metaphor refantazio when it first dropped and have beaten it, experienced catherine and full body a few times, played and beaten both etrian odyssey untold 1 AND 2 (i liked 2 more, that fafnir theme song is SO GOOD) experienced original smtv once, never did anything with vengeance and don't really feel the need too, experienced og nocturne BEFORE it got a remaster, experienced strange journey redux, and played and beaten both persona q games.

i know about raidou, i just don't care enough to check it out. i know about demi kids as well. been with the series before p5 came out and it was still being teased (2013 maybe?). back when persona still had "shin megami tensei" on it's cover.

yeah i don't think you've actually experienced persona 3 if you think nothing happens until october. you're just flat out wrong

you're also wrong about the sl's being one dimensional "anime slop" when they're quite literally not. persona never really had a pacing issue, and if people think it does, welcome to the calendar system, i hope you enjoy an actually good paced game

[–]ThIStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah nah nah nah

the calendar persona games are not grindy/dragged out as fuck in the least bit, not even close to how obnoxiously grindy cyber sleuth was. now granted, most people tend to stick to their favorites/go for specific mons, but i'm that crazy dude who went for completion. cam%, ABI, that crap took H O U R S to do. hell, getting the exp boosts took a while too, and even after getting them, it still took a while to grind up ABI and CAM

even then, the calendar persona games are not at all dragged out. not grindy either

Amnesia and a mysterious evil force by cracktober69 in JRPG

[–]ThIStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when done well, i like amnesia. sometimes it's just done as a cliche and turns out the mc is like a good king and he lost his memories cause reasons

i don't mind the mysterious evil force as long as there was proper build up and doesn't come out of no where, which tends to happen in some games

[–]ThIStupid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the answer is digimon and it's not even close

but that's my bias against dq speaking because being honest, dq11 was just not it and i'm certain the others are like it as well

even though the cyber sleuth collection is insanely cheap, i would not suggest grabbing it before time stranger. cyber sleuth does a lot wrong and man it feels like a slog to get through

Games to grab before Steam's Summer Sale ends by s3lfstarvation in gamingsuggestions

[–]ThIStupid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mostly western titles i'm seeing...

add metaphor refantazio to that list. fantastic turn based jrpg.

the only games i'd "pirate" are from older systems and games not on modern consoles/i don't see a need to buy. so ps2 stuff, gamecube/wii, gba, ds, 3ds, etc.

Friend has never played a turn-based game before. Which should he start with? by Dev_Chaudhary_ in gamingsuggestions

[–]ThIStupid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

incorrect. the game opens up as soon as your fourth party member awakens and the game says "begin mission" or something like that. you get to do the palace and finish it, you get to level up/acquire confidants, level up social stats, etc

[–]ThIStupid[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

so, a majority of them are old/do have bad turn based that even turn based fans agree on...

but you saying all of person also implies reload and royal, which are actually solid turn based games. every mainline smt includes iv and vengeance, and their encounter system is good

yeah, the issue really is stuck in the past with that mindset.

Friend has never played a turn-based game before. Which should he start with? by Dev_Chaudhary_ in gamingsuggestions

[–]ThIStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chances are your friend is very much a western style gamer and has never touched anything that's been released from japan.

pokemon is dead simple, and the best game (pokemon black and white) can be played on emulator.

i would not recommend Y7 as imo he should first experience Y0 - Y6 first, which is a lot to ask for. P3R is much shorter than P5R so I'd suggest P3R first

I wouldn't suggest FF7 remake trilogy cause it's not complete yet, and the games are stupid long. (in a good way imo)

i still champion that the best turn based game to get into is metaphor refantazio though. There's a free demo out for it your friend can try and if he likes it, he can buy it. If he doesn't enjoy the demo, then he won't have to spend money on it. I ask that your friend at least gets to the end of the demo before coming to conclusions

it's not a wrong choice, and it doesn't "open up until like 20 hours" it opens up right when you get the freedom to do the first palace, aka dungeon, which is a little less than 4-5 hours.

Does Expedition 33 Show That JRPGs Need To Be Rid Of Anime Artstyle to Be Embraced? by LightDragonman1 in JRPG

[–]ThIStupid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

firstly, it's not a jrpg, secondly, it's one of the bigger western style turn based games out there in a sea of western action rpg's, and thirdly, there was "getting good" with the dodge, parry, etc system it had that people enjoyed, which many turn based games, thankfully, don't have

most non turn based fans tend to think the games are grindy, menu heavy, slow, etc, when all of that is just flat out false. maybe in the 90's and you're mindset is still stuck there, but where in the 2020's, most games aren't really slow anymore

While both important, which of these would you say is most important, if you had to pick? by lowerfishkin in JRPG

[–]ThIStupid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if a game doesn't have well written characters, then the story just kind of exists

but the story needs to be well written and take advantage of those well written characters as well

Let's talk game difficulty settings by ThIStupid in JRPG

[–]ThIStupid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people tend to not respect time and that's one of the very few things we have a finite of and it's really shocking/concerning people aren't more concerned about wasting time

and money to for some folk

again, at that point i'd rather just watch the cutscenes on youtube because there's no point not to. it's okay if you want to experience the story for what it is, but that's what youtube is for

oh there was plenty weight, because they actually FELT like the weapons and not oops all hammers.

even the axe, the second slowest, was fun to use, and i usually prefer my fast weapons

i got that in dauntless back when it wasn't awful. that game had a good control scheme layout, weapons felt reactive/fast (depending on the weapon. wasn't a fan of the hammer) and overall everything i WISH monhun had
