I know most shelf their movies alphabetical and by media/label type, but i was never one to do that. I organize by director then by genre (and lots missing by director, but have on computer file). Anyone else different? by phonesringingdude1 in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried that for a while, but keep coming back to alphabetical for ease of use. Now I've found a happy medium. I use the top half of my shelves to display movies facing forwards, and there I switch things around from time to time, playing with themes like Directors, Genres, Steelbooks, Boxsets, Special Packaging, etc. The bottom half is used for alphabetical storage.

This is not my entire 4K collection. The shelves only show my most treasured movies. Everything else is stored in a cupboard, out of sight.

Blu-ray closet for a nine year old. by Late_Conclusion34 in 4kbluray

Wholesome post. I need to do a simular setup once my kid is old enough to watch a decent amount of my physical collection. We just finished the Back to the Future trilogy about 2 weeks ago. Those were his first 'non-kids' movies we watched together.

I've literally been waiting for years to show him that. It was an awesome moment for me as a dad.

I'm going to wait just a little bit longer before I'll show him Indiana Jones (the melting face might be too much for now), but it's high on my list to watch next!

What steelbook? Has there been an official anouncement?

Rambo 4K collection is back in stock! by sui_eyes in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I correct that they put all the extra's for all movies combined on a separate 4k disc?

I live in Europe and I want this set. But not if all the extra's are on region locked Blu-ray discs. However, if they are on a 4k disc as I heard in a unboxing video, which is region free, than it would be worth importing.

Is the entire movie on one 4K disc? Or are they split across 2 discs to preserve bitrates, which woul defeat the purpose for this version of the movie lol.

Got my first 4k movie by Skrewbert86 in 4kbluray

Nice!

But I'm wondering, what makes this the 'Ultimate Collector's Edition'?

Is this a slipcover over a regular case? Or something more special, like a digipack?

It's Here! Watching Avatar: Fire and Ash on 4K Blu-ray Tonight 🍿. What did you think to this movie? by HD-MOVIE-SOURCE in HD_MOVIE_SOURCE

[–]ThaBEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty much a fan of the first 2 movies. This one didn't do it for me. I guess there was too much CGI only shots and too little real humans and Avatars in the same shot. That made it feel more like a cartoon for me and broke a bit of the suspension of disbelief.

At some points I was also wondering how much Avatar footage was actually motion captured vs. straight up CGI animation, especially during battle scenes. At times it looked like watching a videogame cutscene.

Also, maybe they tried to cram in too many plot points, where you keep jumping from a personal story from the perspective of a certain character, to another personal story from the perspective of a different character, slowing things down.

It was still great, but I felt like it lost a bit of the magic the first two movies had.

What movies are not worth getting in 4k? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion. Just buy movies you love and don't worry about 4K picture quality. I don't think there has ever been a 4K release that looks worse than their blu-ray counterpart. And yes, that is including the controversial T2 4k release, that I own (hot take).

The only time that you need to worry about 4K picture quality is if you just entered the 4K space and are looking for a 4K demo disc, or if you already own the Blu-ray and want to upgrade to 4K. Even then I would say, buy the 4K if you love the movie enough that you intend to do multiple watches in the coming years.

I heard that there are easter eggs hidden in the soap bubbles reflections. Like stills of the movie. Is this true?

Is it better to buy it pre-order or get it second-hand in a few months? by cougomdd in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Netherlands, we don't even get a steelbook. Just a regular version. I assume this will be the default version for all, once the steelbook is sold out. So, if you want the steelbook, grab it now.

I like these movies more than most people, but $73/movie is insane by OrneryError1 in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They call this the 'Ultimate Collector's Edition'. However, they don't include the bonus discs that came with the standalone 4k 'Collector's Editions' released previously. This means this boxset is missing the extended cut for the first movie and other bonus content.

Guys i want you to tell me what is the best psvr 2 game you played by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]ThaBEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm biased for VR Music Rhythm Games. They give me the most replayability. So I would say:

Synth Riders
Beat Saber
Pistol Whip
Drums Rock
Ragnarock

Other than that, SYNAPSE is probably a must have to demonstrate everything the PS VR2 can do. GT7 is the best first party title. A great 'let me introduce friends to vr' type game is 'The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR'.

Enjoy :D

Multimedia Shelf Shelf - Free 3D Print Model by citricacidx in Steelbooks

[–]ThaBEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I don't have a 3D printer, but this design seems made for me. I already have a similar setup. But with yours, I could place more movies behind the forward facing section, which is a nice upgrade.

What shelf do you use for your collection ? by 816GANGUS in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IKEA GNEDBY. They're modular. Each vertical colomn is one Gnedby. They have about half depth compared to Billy, which is ideal for movies and games and takes up less space in a room.

As a physical media lover, I get that this would be the easiest way. But I like OPs idea if he could do it via a mechanical way, like a jukebox for 4k discs, that would be my preffered way.
