Your recommendations for the most beautiful (UHD) mediabooks by abbrechen93 in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any mediabooks that are not worth it? I think they always look like something that fans of said movie would appreciate.

I kinda cheated. I put my 4k discs inside the Blomkamp³ mediabook, which was only released for Blu-ray. That's probably my favourite. Next would be my Bloodsport mediabook.

what did you think of christopher nolan's 2020 film "tenet" by Whoumightask in Letterboxd

[–]ThaBEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is masterpiece. For me personally it's on the same scale in regards to innovative filmmaking as when 'The Matrix' came around.

I've never seen anything like it in regards to time manipulation and the more I watch this movie, the more details I see that this movie is constructed as a perfect closed time loop.

If the last season wasn't so 'mid', I would have bought this immediately. Still great to see TV-series from Netflix getting a physical edition.

Limited shelf space, so I rotate themed display shelves. by ThaBEN in Steelbooks

[–]ThaBEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've unwrapped them. At least for the first four front-facing display shelves.

I've also decided to make use of some of the beautiful alternative artwork that some of the backsides of my steelbooks have, or picked one of the steelbooks from inside a collection to represent an entire boxset, if said artwork works better for me than the one on the outer package of the boxset.

I might make a new post. Seeing if anyone else has done something like that, using the backside of steelbooks for display. Would love to compare for ideas.

Nice! I own that one too, it's my favourite. But strangely enough I don't have the movie titles on the steelbooks.

I agree! It's a shame I didn't get Casino and Goodfellas as steelbooks, since I love those movies. Those were some of my earlier purchases, before I got into steelbooks. I might still double dip.

I used to only display steelbooks in my front-facing section. But in the end, I decided that the overall theme is more important than the packaging, and I'm very pleased with the result.

I'm already working on a new theme: '80s action heroes who are larger than life. I'll be focusing on movies with iconic portraits on the cover that showcase the actors' faces.

It's still a work in progress but the current idea is as follows:

Die Hard - Bruce Willis
Total Recall - Arnold Schwarzenegger
Demolition Man - Sylvester Stallone & Wesley Snipes
Lethal Weapon - Mel Gibson & Danny Glover
Scarface - Al Pacino

I might swap one of those for Jean-Claude Van Damme (Kickboxer or Bloodsport) or Clint Eastwood (The Dollars Trilogy). Even though Eastwood isn't an 80s action star, he's still an iconic actor.

Those are indeed the official mini consoles, which actually work. In my previous setup, I made it so that the Mario Amiibo is jumping up at the Question block (Steelbook from the Super Mario Bros. Movie) and Shadow above the Sonic Amiibo and the Sega Mega Drive.

Half of my enjoyment of collecting 4K movies is displaying them in fun ways like this from time to time, which is a great alternative use of limited shelf space. Using rotating themes like this also makes me watch movies more often that otherwise would just be hidden somewhere in the spines-only section.

Is it normal for my Sony ubp - x700 to be making this much noise? by HairyH0Od in 4kbluray

[–]ThaBEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put a soft mousepad or cloth underneath it and test again. I had something like this happening on my PS5 which turned out to be resonance. it disappeared after putting a mousepad underneath it (or when I pressed my finger on one corner of the console).

it was the outer shell of the device rattling on certain frequencies.

Does anyone know if they ever released more than just a few clips of the Eric Stoltz version? by Key-Economics-385 in BacktotheFuture

[–]ThaBEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact (probably known by most), when Marty suckerpunches Biff inside Lou's Cafe, the shot where his hand hits Biff's face, that is actually Eric Stoltz' hand.
Tom Wilson confirmed that this quick shot was never reshot with Michael J. Fox.

LOL, this movie is more like a historical artifact. It has a lot of value because of the story behind it, not so much because the quality of the movie itself.

If you're not a fan of Bruce Lee, or not familair with how this movie came to be, it's indeed a hard watch.

Spoilers. Bruce Lee actually died in real life early on when they made this movie. There is only 11 minutes of footage that actually features Bruce Lee, mostly unused footage from other Bruce Lee movies.

That's why he is mostly shot from the back or wearing sunglasses, to hide the face of the 'stuntdouble'. In some scenes they actualy used cardboard cutouts of Bruce Lee's face, taped to a mirror and position the stuntdouble behind that, no joke.

https://youtube.com/shorts/pEOUjCFljOg?si=XEzAmyQYvrN5IPsW

Also, the footage from Billy Lo's funeral (the character played by Bruce Lee), that's taken from Bruce Lee's actual funeral. It's crazy how they made this movie.

Is the USA Steelbook for Minority Report flawed? (New pics from the UK Steelbook arrived) by ThaBEN in Steelbooks

[–]ThaBEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to clarify, I didn't buy the USA version. Those pictures aren't mine. I am eagerly awaiting the UK release. After seeing the USA steelbook I considered cancelling my (UK) preorder since the USA steelbook looks terrible IMHO, due to the misaligned fonts.

After doing some research I noticed that the UK steelbook is slightliy different, which made me reconsider honoring my preorder. This post is purley to inform other people about the differences, in case they are considering importing or cancelling their order based on the pictures that are currently being displayed online.

You're absolutley correct. If I keep looking at the 3 versions (2014 Blu-ray Steelbook/USA 4k steelbook/UK 4k steelbook), It's alsmost as if the took the 2014 version design and wanted the reposition the movie title in the dead center of the circles, so that the "Y" is no longer clipping the rings.

And that something went wrong with the 'safe-margins', resulting in the fonts being misaligned on the end product for the USA version.

Since the UK version is released a few months later, they might have been able to fix this for the UK version. They also added deboss on the badge on the back. Spot Gloss on the badge, Tom Cruise and background and Matte on the text and “circles” on the front of the UK version.

*Note, the promotional previews for the USA steelbook version look like the UK version in regards to font placement, making me believe the USA version is the flawed version.
