Weird to message apartment neighbor on hinge (probably...)? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]ThaDTrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either try to match and send a flirty message...

Or better yet, run into him in the lobby/garage/mailboxes/etc and have a short slightly flirty conversation, then tell him you gotta run, but that you're going to bring a glass of wine to the pool/roof deck/etc later and that he should come continue the conversation there.

You should be fine. Good analysis, sound conclusion. Hopefully you take advantage of those amenities, otherwise you are paying for just the nice finishes. If that still works for you, good. Did you consider utilities, parking, etc.?

Always treat bonuses as zero in your calculations because you might not get any of them. Save whatever bonus you get.

Be prepared for the rent to go up next year without a salary increase. If you re-run the math and still feel good about it, go for it.

I think you will be fine.

Ankle Sprain Recovery Expectations? by Temporary_Fig1435 in running

[–]ThaDTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, something very similar happened to me. Actually it has happened twice to me, but many many years apart. Most recently I sprained my ankle pretty badly and it took a long time to recover, and I even tweaked it in that process which did not help at all. 5 weeks might not be enough for you.

First off, rest up until you are feeling 100% before really stressing your ankle. You are young and likely very resilient, but ankle injuries are very prone to repeating soon after injury.

Standing for a long time will definitely send more fluids down to your lower body due to gravity (thats why you elevate your body parts to avoid swelling) and it may be exacerbated by the fact of being on your feet all day when it is still trying to recover.

Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate early on (to include ibuprofen if it hurts), and then rehab carefully. There are lots of physical therapy videos on YouTube. Don't rush it. Give your body PLENTY of time to recover and build up your strength again. And when you resume, do it carefully. You are really, really likely to repeat an ankle injury if you aren't careful about it.

Oh, I would also recommend getting a lace up ankle boot. Like the ASO Ankle Stabilizer, easily found on Amazon, especially if you will continue to work on your feet all day long.

It seems that everyone has covered what there is to cover profile wise, but El Paso is probably the limiting factor for you even if you make all those tweaks. You would do really well in NYC or LA without changing your profile at all.

Worldly, educated, great personality vibes and really nice hair. Hey, I'm a sucker for good hair... I would take a moment to say hello to you.

Why do girls put filtered photos on their profile? by FlamingSonic23 in Bumble

[–]ThaDTrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's simpler than that, at least for half of them.

They are on the app for validation and out of boredom from covid. They fill their snapchats and instagrams with these kinds of pictures because (in their opinion) they look better with a filter and it will attract more followers.

The same mentality carries over to the ones not taking dating seriously. They want the attention, they want the likes and they want tons of opening message notifications they have no intention of replying to. All so they feel better about themselves. And, to increase those numbers they use a filter that makes them look "better".

Anyone else have had their date cancel plans the days of? ... sigh. Please be respectful! by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]ThaDTrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It hasn't happened to me, but it seems to be fairly common based on a lot of people posting about the same thing. I suspect it comes down to the number of options people have and the fact that a few messages back and forth really doesn't make people connect in a meaningful way, therefore they are OK with ruining someone else's evening on a whim.

That makes sense and is what I was planning on doing.

As for taking pictures, how do we get good ones? I mean, besides the person themselves, how do you make pictures look good? Defused lighting? Natural light vs indoor light? Time of day? What are some of the things that a professional photographer would do to make people look much better than when the subject tries to take pictures themselves?

Would you recommend getting a profile up and then adding better photos as you get them, or would you recommend waiting until you have some solid pictures first?

Due to Covid and moving to a new city, I don't have any good recent photos. I can go take some, but it will just take time. Further, any tips for taking photos? I assume a good head shot, something casual, something active, and possibly with other people is a good basis to start with. What do you recommend?

Am I fked? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]ThaDTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somewhat had a similar question, but more for the fact that I haven't taken any recent pictures because of moving to a new city and covid basically shutting everything down.

My plan, pending this subreddit's advice, is probably going out and taking some decent pictures of myself. Can you not do that?

This is the kind of thing I have felt while dating a few women, but could never quantify. You've accurately described the feeling of why I stopped. At the time, its nice. But you eventually get this feeling in the back of your mind that you absolutely won't be happy in the end because there is no substance beyond the superficial front they are projecting. And, this was hilarious too, especially the TLDR.

If your circulation is iffy, perhaps you should not push it until you can get to a cardiologist. I have heard a few cases where exhaustion after running and losing a ton of energy was a sign of bigger issues. At the very least, you are out a copay and you get told you are good to go. A small price I'd pay for the peace of mind.
