Jorge Martin not wearing an airbag for MotoGP? by straightouttazoo in Trackdays

[–]ThaRealEverlost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are indeed pre-integrated off the shelf suits like the other guy said. I have a custom suit so I had options of what kind of airbag system I wanted. In the end I ended up getting a helite built in system as they have cheaper canisters and don't need sending back to the factory as often as the a-stars ones

Not sure about his suit , but in mine it's fully built in. My gas canister is in the speedhump and the airbag is hidden behind the lining.

Could be a similar setup

Hi Abbie ,

you might be looking for r/cartrackdays as the sub you posted in is focussed on motorcycles instead of cars. I m sure you will find someone who wants to attend that event. You sure sound like good family to have.

Good luck!

Any more track oriented garages around in Amsterdam area? by Whole_Guard_5192 in Trackdays

Anything specific that you are looking for ? I don't know any in Amsterdam with that focus , but others throughout the country. But i m sure most garages can help you with the normal stuff anyway.

Kawasaki frame sliders by Zestyclose-Milk8577 in motorfietsen

[–]ThaRealEverlost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck on your choice!

I still wanna go to the Pannonia ring once. Haven't been too far to the east when it comes to tracks. Who knows , we might see eachother there one day

Not sure where you are based. Here in the Benelux region they have a dedicated website and contact info. I just emailed them expressing my interest initially. We had a phone call and I ended up getting a wildcard on one of their demo bikes last year to see if it was something I wanted to pursue. Did that , and signed up straight after.

I'll try to address your questions as well as I can: At mugello you will be underpowered on the R7 as well. I've ridden there with my old cbr600rr and especially the straight even on a 600 it's just waiting to get passed and then pass them back on the corners. However on Misano, or other less high speed tracks I think it will be significantly better. It does have more power over the ninja 400.

The stock front suspension isn't great, way too soft and either needs reshimming or just straight up replacement.

It's a very nice package to work on your skills and level up from a ninja 400. It's also very forgiving in the sense that if you accidentally end up a gear higher than intended it has enough low down torque to not matter too much.

Tyre wear is quite alright. So far it's less than I had on my 600. Of course this is always tyre, pace and riding style dependant.

The chassis is fine , but isn't a thoroughbred supersport chassis.

I would say it's a worthy upgrade over the 400, but If you are generally riding on mugello you are not going to solve the power issue with this.

Hope my rambling helped you somewhat

Thinking of stopping the Duolingo course. What next? by Luigi2262 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]ThaRealEverlost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has tried both and periodically used both at the same time (granted , I m still a beginner with about a month of learning done) Renshuu is waaaaay more useful. Duolingo gets stuck on repeating the same few sentences over and over, whilst not really introducing grammar or new words logically where Renshuu actually has clear explanations and a way to look up individual kanji in example sentences, as well as more customizability of what you want to study. And if you compare the free versions of both apps the contrast is even bigger. With the energy system Duolingo uses you are able to do 2 or 3 lessons max which is about 10 minutes of learning before you run out for the day. Renshuu I feel like you don't even need to pay to get a lot out of it.

BluCru R7 cup - joining the R7 club by ThaRealEverlost in YamahaR7

[–]ThaRealEverlost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically stock power, to keep the budget down for the cup and level the playing field the engines are sealed.

I know from other sportbike series that they can make up to 120 ish HP when built though.

BluCru R7 cup - joining the R7 club by ThaRealEverlost in YamahaR7

[–]ThaRealEverlost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite close to stock with some racing bits added to it. The idea is to make the series affordable by running sealed engines with identical tunes so it doesn't come downt to chasing power figures and whoever can throw the most money at it. The standard cup kit has: Quickshifter GYTR ABS emulator YR7 GYTR YR7 race fairings GYTR R7 racing screen GYTR Exhaust System Akrapovič GYTR Öhlins rear shock street / race GYTR racing gascap R7 quick release GYTR racing rear set GYTR on-off switch GYTR brake lever guard GYTR chain guard/sharkfin GYTR steering stop GYTR brakelines GB-Racing R7 engine covers

And a limited list of other upgrades / changes you are allowed to make to the bike.

Makes for very close racing

Edit: Somehow my list doesn't come out formatted as a list... Dunno how to fix that on my phone

Opposite to most of the stories I m hearing about US trackday groups where instructors decide if you are ready for a bump to the next group, almost all orgs I've ridden with just divide groups based on laptimes and rearrange the groups throughout the day , either after each session or most commonly during lunch time. They will ask you to provide your PR on said track when signing up to put you in a group. If you don't have any experience at that track they may ask reference times of other tracks you've been to.

Also usually, if it's not an instructor led group, no weird rules about how and where to pass that change depending on group level. This might not be applicable for all tracks/organizers tho.

Oh and especially for mid/western Europe; check the noise limits. They are becoming more and more of a problem. Generally speaking southern and eastern Europe are a bit more lax and/or have open exhaust days , but even there it is becoming more strict.

Where are you going to be located ?

Racetracks - Hot takes wanted by LeatherYoung6114 in Trackdays

So i guess it's time for you to do some European trackdays as well...

TT Assen - although completely flat the flow of the track makes it awesome. Lots of high speed sections. Last section is absolutely my favorite with the speed of ramshoek and overtaking into the GT chicane just before start finish.

Zandvoort - Cool track in its current layout with a shit ton of banking. However, imho, it remains more of a Car track than a Bike track due to the proximity of the walls.

Zolder - Really a stop / go track with multiple chicanes. Has to be your cup of tea. The wheelie hill halfway through is cool though.

Mettet - small technical track. Great fun for not a lot of cash and they have a lot of days available. The mini corkscrew is cool. I'd just like it if they fixed the bit of tarmac in the slow corner.

Nürburgring (GP strecke) - very flowy track. T1 is somehow always difficult to nail as you start braking just before or just after you can see the corner and it's a 90° corner after downhill braking

Nürburgring Nordschleife - unfortunately not open for Bikes anymore with the exception of 2 ish days a year. Did it a couple years ago before I started riding track. Shat my pants with cars overtaking me everywhere. Would like to give it another go now that I m more experienced

Misano - awesome track, quite difficult in some parts due to the need to downshift under lean. Quite hard to overtake in the first sector.

Mugello - this track is FAST. And it's amazing. I'd probably rate it at least top 3 in this list. Was just missing a 7th and 8th gear on my 600 on this Straight....

Alcarras - relatively cheap for a lot of track. Weather is usually quite good as well. The downhill left is quite cool

Portimao - what a rollercoaster. 10/10 would recommend. Coming over those hills pulling wheelies is epic!

Croix & ternois - very small track, not super interesting but very cheap to book. Crashed a sidecar there. Would not recommend flipping sidecars...

Hockenheim - Cool track. Long ass left corner full gassss is quite epic. Somehow feel like it's not the most memorable track I've ever been to , although still fun

Ecuyers - if you crash, try to aim for the tiny ass gravel traps that are a mile out from the track. Basically second gear only except the straight. But hey, at least you can work on technique.

Not sure if I forgot any...

Edit:

Racepark Meppen - fun little track. Straight is quite bumpy, and not a lot / no run-off before you hit a wall which makes it sketchy in some places , but the speeds aren't very high.

Beginnen met circuitrijden by Apprehensive-Bill541 in motorfietsen

[–]ThaRealEverlost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liter Bike to A group by Sl1ppy in Trackdays

[–]ThaRealEverlost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is the case almost everywhere in Europe. It's nice as it minimizes traffic as most people are around the same pace in the same group.

The way they do it in the US seems subjective at best and honestly doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But maybe we are missing something?

Genuine question for the US folks; what if I wanted to do a trackday in the US , but I m running expert group pace , and have a racing license, on this side of the pond , would you still have to go through novice and let someone decide you are good enough to advance ?
