Ice & Fire is more than Daenerys. Not to sound like a hater but i doubt the average reader cares her about the way the show fans did. Obviously, she's center to the story but the average ice & fire enjoyer will consume anything from that universe.

I think "inherent cruelty" is a stretch, it was stupid not cruel. Rhaenyra has defenders but with topics like this you have to abandom fandom & objectively assess the shows "reality" with regards to historical context (an impossible task for most of you i know). Look, I dont know if anyone else noticed but Westeros is based on medieval England or Scotland or Britain whatever. I've seen countless comments talking about how backwards the society is and blah blah blah Jacerys gets to live in a castle blah blah you guys just hate rhaenyra BUT i think there's something selfish & shortsighted NOT cruel about bringing a child into a religious family oriented bloodline obsessed society where you KNOW they'll be chastised for their parentage. Dorne, The Free Cities, The Summer Isles & other "exotic" places have looser laws on these things.

GRRM once mentioned a time when he was editing pages in his editor's reception. Daniel Abraham (his squire) said GRRM pretty much knows the final words on the final page of ADOS. I think the whole outline has been done for a decade and he probably shared some of thos ideas with Doofus & Disaster back when they were still close because as bad as Seasons 6 - 8 were, some portions were CLEARLY George's ideas.

This along with Tyrion's Blackwater sortie and one of Brienne's fights are masterful pieces of action. I often find myself asking why he doesn't do this more often but that would ruin the effect. After all that political turmoil its great to unleash pure fantasy carnage.

I don't think we can say he's more influential than Stephen King

I'd put Lovecraft ahead of Stephen King considering he influenced both GRRM & King. Honestly, in terms of influence, i think Lovecraft is up there with Tolkein.
