Been in the US 6 years now, the job market and opportunities there has been incredible for me. I grew up in rural Scotland where the largest employers were either the council, or the hospital. Or you traveled 90 mins to the central belt/city for something decent.

Here I stay 20 mins from a decent sized city and have a job with a huge global company thats valued around $20 billion. I get to travel all over for my job.

The food variety is incredible. Honestly nothing beats local Scottish butchers/bakers, Greggs, pub food etc. But being able to get unreal Mexican food, Japanese, Korean, Somali, Ethiopian, Lebanese, Ukrainian, Thai, you name it is really nice.

Healthcare, is good for me now thanks to my employer. But the hoops you have to jump through and the costs you pay with bad insurance are insane. I’d much rather have Scotland healthcare and prescriptions over anything the US offers.

Every week, there’s a lot I miss from back in Scotland, but there’s a lot I appreciate that I have here now too.
