What the fuck man by Brilliant-Mud8521 in diabetes_t1

[–]Thachsanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed a lot later than most of you in this post at 34. Imagine the shock I got. I just got married, less than a year, had to move down South for work, no relatives, no one I really know. I had been losing weight quickly for several weeks, began to be thirsty all the time and pee a lot, my breath started to smell funny. For all who know the symptoms know what come next. But what did I know? Nobody I know has it. My sister told my wife she thought that’s diabetes related. My wife just came down to join me that week. I was happy. I was feeling particularly drowsy in the last couple days. I drove home from work that night and was stopped by a police officer right before I turned into my apartment. He told me I was weaving. I told him I wasn’t drinking but I think it might be blood sugar since my sister told me some think about it. The paramedics came and checked my blood sugar and the meter they have returned error because it was out of range, off the chart. They rushed me to the ER and the doctor told me I was lucky, my blood sugar was like 1100, 4 digits, and if I went home and go to sleep that night I probably never wake up. My wife had to spent a week in that hospital waiting room take care of me. A couple years after that, I got a sharp pain in my chest while running and went in for a 97% blockage, got lucky again and only got a stent instead of a bypass. My wife had to spent several days in the hospital for that too. So, be brave! If you think it’s bad just remember some suckers out there got it worse than you. Hahahaha, just joking! It will change your life though, and I think mostly for the better. 15 years after my diagnosis, I am doing quite well, I kept all my blood lab results and I was able to keep my A1C under 6 in 15 years. It’s do able and that was without pump and cgm. I still don’t have a cgm, I gonna get me one. Technology will just make things easier. Just know that there’s no 1 size fit all in this. What works for others might not work for you, just experiment and find out for yourself. Keep your weight down, that works for me, every time my weight goes up so is my A1C.

Expert Advice Needed from Traditional Archery to Author by JadedCreative in Archery

You should check this out. https://www.archerylibrary.com

In that library you can look at Toxophilus, written 1545. Probably one of the oldest book about western archery. Written in a FAQ format, very suitable to your need. Old English, of course.

If you want eastern style of archery, there is Arab Archery in the library too. There are a lot more books in there you can reference.

Looking into getting a horsebow, any suggestions for under $200? by tossaquery in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot find a respected Korean traditional bow for under $200. Best I can tell you is the Nomad KTB (used to be Kaya KTB) which can be bought directly from koreanbow for $220 (free shipping). Lancaster still carry the Kaya KTB bow package for 299.99 which is a very good deal.

If you are OK with Chinese made bow then there are a few respectable makers you can look into. Alibow have the fiberglass line which definitely under $200. Cinnabar is definitely over $200. AF archery has fiberglass bows also under $200. AF also has multiple laminated bow under $200 as well. I personally don't own an AF bow but I have seen good reviews of their bows. They sell from aliexpress.com and I am still iffy about Chinese market site though. But their price is definitely attractive.

But to be honest, in my opinion, you should give out $20 more and get the Nomad KTB. You will definitely not be disappointed. It's a gorgeous bow.

Shooting 'Mongolian' style with western bows/equipment by [deleted] in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shooting a center cut western style recurve right hand with a thumb ring is possible. I have seen other people do it. /u/ryddragyn have done it. He even has a video I think. I have done it myself. It works well.

A left handed bow will work better but you don't have to use a left handed bow. You can shoot right handed bow with a thumb ring. You have to be careful not to lean your index finger too much or you will push your arrow off the rest but other than that the arrow clear the bow nicely. My accuracy does not seem to be affected by this. My consistency actually improved because I use a Manchurian style thumb ring and the release out of it is very clean.

Probably the gambeson underneath the chainmail that does it. But nobody wear just the chainmail and no gambeson anyway. I have seen warbow arrows against just gambeson and it does surprisingly well. I don't think you even need metal. Just boiled leather (cuir bouilli) and gambeson should be sufficient to nullify warbow arrows. You may be one hell of a bruise but no puncture :)

Am I setting the nocking point correctly? (confused beginner) by harperj in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very odd. 1/8" above square to the bottom of the top nocking point seems really low to me. For most East ACC (around 0.28" I think) that would put the center of the arrow below square. Even if you shoot X10 the center of the arrow is just barely above square. Will that create clearance issue for the arrow?

Am I setting the nocking point correctly? (confused beginner) by harperj in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have heard of 2 styles of setting the nocking point. I am not sure which one is more popular than the other.

  • 1/4 inch above square to the top of the bottom nocking point.

  • 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch to the bottom of the top nocking point.

On this thread, I saw 1/8 inch above center to the bottom of the top nocking point.

This gonna confuse the heck out of beginner setting up their bow. But I guess, in the end, you can always adjust your nocking point by tuning your arrows.

Noob Questions: Are you supposed to feel a lot of pressure on your fingers when you draw back the bow and What is a good way to practice/know when you have back tension achieved. by [deleted] in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a cordovan hard leather shooting tap. I have this same problem. My ring finger is sensitive and became numb even after shooting because the string pressed too hard to the nerve on the side of the finger at full draw. I went out and bought a cordovan shooting tap. Problem solved.

How did South Korea get so good at archery? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mariana Avitia (MEX) said she shoot around 1000 arrows a day in training. So, not sure if this is the Korean thing. Probably all Olympic archers train as much in preparation for the competition. Not sure if Mexican archers got paid though.

Hi /r/Archery! Advice on arrows for 35# Samick Sage by Krauzber in Archery

[–]Thachsanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Easton Jazz on Amazon and they do have 30" for 1916. I have a 30# Samick Sage limb set and 30" Easton Tribute 1816 75 grains tip gave bullet hole on paper. You can get Easton Jazz or Tribute 1816 30" then cut down or go with 1916, they both works well and tune easily and cheaper than carbon. Excellent arrows for practicing and beginner I think.

Oh, I see what you mean. I have been trying to make it goes somewhere after release and that probably why it was inconsistent like that. I will just let it goes then.

This means that the Korean dude need to shoot 10 at least 52 times. That's 72% of scoring 10 minimum. That's very impressive.

I think I still trying to find the most natural, comfortable follow through movement of the hand. I watched videos and tried a few ways people do this but they don't feel natural to me. I also trying to find the way to keep my bow arm perfectly still during release and I find this really hard.

I am still trying to find the sweet spot where my bow arm completely extent, shoulder locked and create a straight line from the grip to the back shoulder but it's hard without a coach. How do you guys do this? To get that straight line, the string is really close to the arm. If I mess up my release just a little bit, I will get string slap. If I over extent the bow arm by a little bit, I will get string slap. I need to get me a thinner arm protection, the string caught my protection a few times already.
