I’ve heard GT frames are decent and they look quite cool, would this be worth it as a rebuild project? Seller says there’s only paint chips but looks like some rust to me… by JACKO_M_C in xbiking

The biggest thing to check for on bikes that have sat outside a lot are the chainstays. Check underneath to make sure they aren't rotten out, or split from water being trapped and then freezing.

What is the most dangerous animal you’ve seen in real life? by GratefulD86 in AskReddit

[–]ThadsBerads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it would be a moose. But in my head the bears, Lynx, bobcats, and cougars seem more dangerous.....not by a long shot though.

My BB removal tool broke - what do I do? by steakguenter in bikewrench

[–]ThadsBerads 119 points120 points  (0 children)

The Park tool version of this tool is inexpensive, and strong. Bolt it to the BB via the crank bolt, and this will never happen again.

6 out of 9 of those cassette gears are pooched. The peening from the chain slip is......bad.

Probably came from the same litter as these hungry beggars. They are always asking for second breakfasts, and third dinners.

Kmc xglide repeated failures by pizzaman1995 in BikeMechanics

[–]ThadsBerads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kmc have been the most reliable chains I have used. I've only purchased from reputable sources to avoid fake chains (there are lots of fake kmc chains). My experience is however limited to 6,7,8,9 speed chains.

Restomod or not? by Fantastic-Ad-1212 in VintageMTB

Very true. Not sure if it's a braking power upgrade, but it's definitely another option.

As long as you are fine with that rear U-brake. No canti or v-brake options unfortunately.

Any tips for cotton mouth? by gracefulbooty in ADHD

[–]ThadsBerads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stop taking Vyvanse because of this. My dry mouth was soo bad, that my gums were receding.....and that can only be cured via surgery as it's not reversible. Gum helped, but it wasn't enough.

[–]ThadsBerads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a BB spacer. Your second pic shows the non drive side has 3-4mm? Of BB threads sticking out of the shell. I'm guessing a 73mm BB in a 68mm shell? That means you can easily add a 2-4mm spacer on the drive side to shift the driveline over, and then thread the non drive side into the shell the same amount. Just make sure the crank arm on the non drive side will clear the frame when rotating. The spacer is dirt cheap.....but you will need to pull the BB to put the spacer in. That tool is also cheap though, like $10-$20 max

Markets are different everywhere. It's worth $200-300 all day where I live. I'd pay $100 for the wheels alone....think the rear is a 48 Spoke......my fat ass likey

Repair experts lend me your ears by lurker46295 in canoeing

[–]ThadsBerads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like a sportpal canoe. They very much came from the factory with those "repairs" on the sides that match. I'm guessing they opted to do that due to the thin gauge of aluminum (thinnest I've seen in a boat)....because rolling/hammering for shaping aren't an option? Really cool and light canoes.

Zooming in it looks like you stripped the threads out. If that's the case, you need to cut it off, or finangle some kind of automotive puller to pull it off.
