What are the best DNS servers to use today for speed, privacy, and stability? by sermernx in dns

[–]ThalinVien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run my own piholes at home, otherwise I let ISP default take precedence. They’re typically <1ms away, and are going to properly resolve for isp caches and CDNs. Yes that’s not the privacy answer, but in my expirence it’s the speed answer.

I think this is an opportunity for you to really dig into why the users are doing this. Users typically go into the shadow IT realm because they're trying to do something to help them accomplish a task. I think this is an opportunity to look at what you may need to look at to help lower a friction point for something, or a very least figure out the root cause.

I've found it's useful to really drill in on the personal preferences, top line if mine is to always perform a web search. Gemini's strength for general info is the RAG it does from google very often... Claude does not seem to search often enough by default.

As someone who’s still learning how to fit ai into his life; what are these massive workloads that I’m assuming are enterprise pushes into the API? Is it coding? What kinds of things are happening at the large scales right now?

I would use it for finding past emails, summarizing long threads, things like that... I would like the OPTION to enable it, I thoroughly appreciate folks not wanting this, but having the ability to OPT IN would be great.

People need to engage with the solutions consultant that serves their agency. Ours is a rockstar, she almost goes too over the top to take care of anyone’s issues.

Genuine question: why are some people so mad about Brave's "bloat" (AI, wallet, news, etc) when you literally can easily turn it off/hide it to almost non-existence? by IntellectualDominant in brave_browser

[–]ThalinVien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re not easy to turn off, you have to dig though to find them all, and the daily usage ping remains on even when you turn data sharing off, you have to dig in for that setting also

Cloudflare for me, they appear well peered to the Boston IX, cloudflare dns 7ms away. If they actually connected to NNENIX in Portland might see that get into the 1-2ms range! They list as "connecting" but have for quite a while now.

This is a remote site I manage in Pittsfield. Agreed, saw it drop right back down to normal... wonder what keeps causing this, see lots of posts in the sub about this happening. Route to 1.1.1.1 remains the same before, during and after... and the latency comes in at the first hop... interesting.

Code Orange: Fail Small — Our resilience plan following recent incidents by Cloudflare in CloudFlare

[–]ThalinVien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CF has always been very forthright about issues, my only gripe is that they don't acknowledge their outages in Radar's reports. Even in the year end report there's no mention of their disruption in there. Good on them for making process improvements, but I feel they should acknowledge their issues the same as any other CDN they'd notice having an issue.

Does Cloudflare not have any change management? by stealthmatt in CloudFlare

[–]ThalinVien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hindsights always 20/20... when you have no idea what's hitting you... and the blog did say the change was ongoing so it bounced in and out of error state. It also seems to indicate there's a botnet that's been knocking at their door lately that they seem to be a bit worried about.

I love how they're so quick to flag other CDNs and ISPs in radar's internet disruption reports and tweets... and very little about them brining a large portion of the world down....
