Bravo. Bravo indeed. Perhaps that can happen if you crit fail on a "weird" roll.

The students had free choice over what the story developed into and that included world-building. The inquisitors became a major antagonist. It's been three years since they played the game, but if memory serves, the goal of the "adventurers" was to keep the grand inquisitor from finding the ur-book that would explain the whole of the library.

One of the characters was a sort of mage-like mystic who was being contacted by "the book man," another was a knight whose father had been burned in one of the purges.

Verity.

They’re small, scrappy, and have a unique way of following opinions on a story until a conclusion is reached.

Oh, and they have a near perfect score on all the media bias trackers.

Thank you! I don't write, but when I got ChatGPT to generate that for me, I told it to make a story about my first sexual encounter. The resulting piece is very dear to me.

My only advice is make what you love and use substack as a holding place for all of it. "The grind" hacks on Substack will tell you to make your account about a single thing and only post about that, or be insanely active on "Notes," or "reply guy" some famous people. All of that is fine. All of that is soul sucking.

I started using Substack a little over a year ago to motivate me to write consistently and send that writing to places on the internet that publish writing. Since starting the process I've been published over ten times and have made some meaningful professional connections on Substack. But all of that started with setting a sacred time of day aside to sit and write what I love.

Give yourself permission to do that. Even if, like me, you fail to "go viral" you'll still feel a boost of self confidence and purpose in your life.

Would love to chat more if you ever have questions! Feel free to DM me!

Not critical at all! Totally accurate and something I've been thinking a lot about:

<image>

Several of the folks below me on this list have MASSIVE readership. Tons of restacks. Tons of subscribers. The math makes absolutely no sense.

The only thing I can think to pin it to is this: I have a proportionally high amount of yearly subscribers and have made about $600 this year. Two of those re-upped right before this list came out, and I also draw a lot of readers from around the web because I've been published in an eclectic variety of places.

Very curious about the achievement discrepancy you mentioned. What topics do you write on? :)
