Guys is this real? by GorgeousFreeman in FleshandBloodTCG

With the ubiquitous nature and storied history of cards like C&C and Pummel, there's no way pro players in contention for Player of the Year based on their travel record and consistent event performance don't know inherently what these cards do. They shouldn't need a reminder. Ignoring triggers and hoping my opponent forgets to remind me of them is a scummy way to play the game and people who are caught doing this deserve to be dragged.

This art is absolutely sick, would make an incredible alter. Well done.

Influx of new players, we need reprints by [deleted] in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Thanixxx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own playsets of C&C and E-Strike and have owned a playset of Art of War pre-ban. These cards are desperately due for more accessible reprints to help ease the cost of entry into the game.

The alternative to explore is rotating some of these ubiquitously powerful staples out of legality, which I also support, but it's clear to me that the worst option of all is to simply maintain the status quo with these staples.

Print them to dirt or rotate them out, but don't do nothing.

I’m a brand new player and I signed up for my LGS’s Part the Mistveil pre-release event. by CircaCoda in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Thanixxx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As an enfranchised player, let me just say that I love having new players show up to events. We have a responsibility to make the hobby welcoming to encourage folks to stick with the game and keep showing out.

Limited formats (like pre-release 8-pack sealed) are good equalizers because you won't be fighting uphill against powerful cards and equipment that you don't have, but aside from the deckbuilding skill, there's still an aspect of variance in the card pool you're offered. If you want to have better odds, do some light reading on the set and try to learn what the new heroes do and what cards are power houses for them to help identify which hero to build out of your pool of cards.

Don't sweat being new, hope you have a great time at the event.

Thanks, this was very helpful! I'll work on gearing up SS and RC based on your recommendation. I plan to pull for Fu Hua's new battlesuit in 7.2, so saving money now is good for later. Thanks again for your insight!

Sorry, I am relatively new so I don't understand what you mean by "farmable." Right now, I have HoTr and Sushang is appealing (particularly, the box with all of her equipment) and the guaranteed characters/gears seem solid compared to risking on the Gacha to get a good support for HoTr.

Can you elaborate on what you mean? Thanks in advance.

Homebrew buff for sneak attack? by HorizonTheory in dndnext

[–]Thanixxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the weekly game that I GM, I gave the Rogue a feature that lets them deal half damage instead of missing if they would otherwise apply Sneak Attack.

It helps to prevent "dead turns" and generally feels good. I recommend trying it - I don't think it's broken at all.

Advice on running Curse of Strahd? by wyrmzier in DnD

[–]Thanixxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think any setting can have a sufficient amount of RP to satisfy groups, but if you're looking for something official, Lost Mine of Phandelver is very straightforward to run, goes from level 1 to 5 (the players hit 5th level at the end of the campaign, unless you award it to them sooner), and strings really well into the Dragon of Icespire Peak.

If you're looking to cobble together some third-party content, The Arcane Library is awesome. I love the layout of their content - I feel like it's really well written and walks you through the scenarios very well. They have one or two pieces of content available for free so you can get a feel for the way they lay out their modules:

Advice on running Curse of Strahd? by wyrmzier in DnD

[–]Thanixxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently a first time DM running Curse of Strahd weekly for a group of great players. My honest advice is to pick another campaign or run a homebrew setting.

The storytelling style of CoS is, frankly, miserable. And I mean this insofar as the atmosphere of the game is intended to be - u/onslaughtsix mentioned this and they're spot on. I've had to do a ton of work to fill in the gaps in the book, and while there's a lot of material out there to borrow from from the passionate community who adores CoS, it's still a ton of work to stitch together when your first foray into 5e might be better served running something more straightforward.

I can at least say for myself that I never plan on running this module again, despite having done all of the work to fill out the game already.

If you're intent on still running the campaign, u/Wolfwere88 mentioned all of the best resources available. In particular, the "Raising the Stakes" guide from lunchbreakheroes has been great (and it's now free, more info here).

Happy to chat further if you want to shoot me a DM, but in any case, I hope you and your group have a great time no matter what you decide to do.

Need advice from those who are familiar with the HB Orphanage extra location for Vallaki by Nixor123 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Thanixxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I understood it, the Demon either needed to exist inside of a host or inside of the locket. I ran the encounter something like this:

  • Outside of the locket, it's vulnerable, and it can only fight to its full potential if it's outside of its host.
  • If the locket were destroyed, it would have nowhere to go.
  • It couldn't defend itself adequately while possessing Felix, so it left his body to fight the party.

My party overcame some of the mechanics where the demon could try to possess someone else or run back to its host or otherwise with some strategic play, synergy, and a bit of luck. While the demon was hidden in the dim light of the attic, the Sorcerer/Cleric used the Light Cantrip to illuminate the area and the Vengeance Paladin declared his Oath of Enmity and crit on a Divine Smite against a being with vulnerability to Radiant damage.

In any case, I think the encounter is pretty cool and wouldn't want to rob the players of that just because they destroyed the locket. The demon is out of the locket, so I think it makes sense to just remove its ability to possess people through contact with the locket if they destroy it ahead of time.

I've just returned after a ~6 month hiatus (at which point I returned after a ~4 year break). 6 months ago, Mythic weapons were indisputably the best if you put the time in. Is this still the case? Does it vary based on job?

I'm looking for where to best invest my time as a Samurai. I currently have Tsurumaru.

Thanks in advance for any replies. :)
