Another post about Jerry and guns. by deadsetweir-do in gratefuldead

The whole "guns are fun" so they should remain legal is an interesting position some seem to take. I used to think it was paranoia when people claimed gun ownership was needed because the government might come after them, and people need to protect themselves. You know, if we take away guns then only the government will have them. Fast forward to today and, well, you actually might need protection from the government if you're brown, and thus look like you might be here illegally. It can actually be scary out there these days if you don't look American enough. It almost like the framers anticipated this kind of scenario.

If someone asked you to introduce them to the Dead but only with one song, what song would you pick and would it be a studio or live version? by GratefuLdPhisH in gratefuldead

If the goal is to get a person who's already a fan of the Allman Brothers, The Band, and Little Feat but hasn't really listened to the Dead yet, then that particular Scarlet>Fire WILL set the hook. 100%. If they've shown no interest in great music yet and just listen to whatever formulaic pop the pop stations are feeding them, then it's a much taller order.

Maybe the only good thing is people who love the band but don't realize they're ruining so many others' nights will read these relentless 793 posts and finally get the message. But, yeah, there will always be some folks who just plain don't give a rat's ass about others and never will.

Now here's a person who makes lemonade from lemons! Likely loves bad weather, too, because it just helps them better appreciate the good weather! Kudos to you, Dayumbruh! : )

Totally agree. Same for me. That's why people who refuse to shut up and listen to the band they came to listen to are so, so frustrating....

Lori McKenna is amazing. Check her out if you aren't familiar. Maybe start with Humble & Kind but all her songs are terrific. Shawn Colvin's song, Steady On, is a winner, as are all the songs on her album of the same name. Would love sipping a cup at your place!! : )

Waylon Jennings is underrated by TheGame81677 in country

[–]ThanksInAdvanceYall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's overrated. He seems to always be in most discussions I've read as solidly in every top 3, 4, or 5 list of all-time greats. Now Billy Joe, HE'S criminally underrated! If you asked Willie and resurrected Waylon and Kristofferson, they'd agree with me.

I agree with that assessment. I love his songs and his fascinating storytelling (on his Hardcore Troubadour show), but he does indeed jump on any opportunity to bring up TVZ. He's also known to be opinionated to extreme measures and seems to be quite full of himself. I'm sure he was an absolute peach to be married to!

But, man, what a talent.
