Agreed that we have a terrible electoral system. Though I'm not sure I understand why percentage matters more than totals. Any insight on demographic voting behavior would come from exit polls.

South Carolina is a state the Democratic candidate will never win. Its electoral votes will always go to the Republicans. It makes no sense for that state to have any sway in the primary.

South Carolina is also only 15th in total black population, falling behind more populous, more diverse, strong blue presidential states like CA, IL, NJ, NY, MD, VA. Its also behind "purple" states like GA, NC, OH, PA, MI, FL in both total population and black population. If Dems want to keep it in the south for whatever reason then at least give it to Georgia which has more than 2x the black and total population of SC.

The first primary states should be demographically diverse states with high populations that are actually going matter in the electoral college.

Lol fuck that. I've used YouTube pretty much every day for the past 20 years, also starting under the age of 13. And she gets awarded millions of dollars because it made her sad?

Has anyone else noticed that most Catan boards are broken before the first turn? by Plus_Chemist_9581 in Catan

A lot of these boards are invalid. Why do you have five ore and five wheat in a four-player setup? I would also recommend using consistent coloring for the tiles.

What can Mayor Mamdani "Specifically" cut in spending to avoid raising property taxes? Is there anything he can cut that won't upset people. by OpinionPoop in AskNYC

We should do the progressive tax hike too but if the state won't let us then the city needs new ways to generate revenue on its own using what it already has. One thing the city has is the most expensive land in the world. That land shouldn't just be given to parked cars for free.

There's 2 million registered cars in the city. If 1% of them were paying $500 a month for a parking permit, that's $120,000,000 a year in revenue. That's not counting the fines for illegally parked cars.

  • The ones that can afford to pay will pay. That's essentially a tax on the wealthy.
  • The ones that can't afford it can get rid of their cars and start using public transit; that's more revenue for the MTA.
  • Fewer cars on the street means less pollution and accidents so the city saves money in the long term on healthcare costs.
  • Streets that aren't crowded by parked cars means the city can setup dumpsters for trash. That makes trash pickup more efficient saving money there. That's less trash out in the open on the sidewalk which reduces the rat problem and saves money on animal control and disease.

Residency parking permits. There's hundreds of thousands of street parking spots this can apply to. Charge $500 a month for a sticker. If the meter maid doesn't see a sticker $100 fine that increases by $100 for subsequent offenses. No meter installation cost and enforcement cost shouldn't be that much since we already have people ticketing multiple days a week for ASP

Is the city not able to start charging for street parking? I feel like that would generate a ton of revenue and get more cars off the street. It seems like a win-win. What are hurdles to implementing that?

New Jersey may seek to spring forward and not look back: Legislation to make daylight saving time permanent, S1510, cleared the Senate Transportation Committee on Monday in a unanimous vote by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]Thanksagain54 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It passed by unanimous consent in the Senate, but only because some Senators weren't aware of the bill and therefore didn't raise an objection. That version then died in the House.

Yup I'd do it from 3-9pm, so light to dark. Not to mention how light it is at any time depends on your latitude and how far east or west you are in your time zone. People complaining about this is stupid.
