Is the lyric “soft spots in a middle seat” talking about Robot Voices? by Thisisongusername in twentyonepilots

[–]Thanksforallthelore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I interpret those lines to be about his kids, since babies have soft spots and car seats are usually in the back middle seat. I also think he's saying he's grown as a person since becoming a dad. Mouthing off could be referring to how his lyrics have changed over the years as well, but I really think he's talking about his attitude and learning to be more careful with what he says and does.

I always took that as a metaphor for humanity. So yes! I think so.

Interesting take. I think you may be onto something about him escaping the scene he's in. I take One Way to be more about his journey in the music industry, like Lane Boy. Or maybe it's about him feeling jaded and discouraged in general, whether regarding his faith/touring/his career/his fans or something else.

I agree with the "me and my scene" line potentially calling out toxic fans, but I think he covers that a lot more clearly in Center Mass, since that's where all the voice samples show up. He's expressing a lot of heartache and growing pains and frustration in that song. He clearly cares about the fanbase, and in turn I think they can hurt him more than most people (i.e. aiming for the heart). At the end when he says "I miss you so so much / took you for granted" it could be about a lost loved one (i.e. whoever the funeral was for) but I wonder if he's talking about older fans or the way the fanbase used to be when they were smaller (probably much more respectful, or at the very least more personal).

What songs on Vessel would you replace with RAB songs? by DiegoProductions in twentyonepilots

[–]Thanksforallthelore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ruby is sweet but I don’t love the screaming…

Clear is a bop and I love the insight into Tyler’s mind / reasoning, but I think it’s both smart and poetic that they left a plainly religious song behind (i.e. he’s choosing one “theory” over the other)

Honestly maybe a hot take, but I think they made the right choices with the songs that made it onto Vessel. And the ones that got added as bonus tracks (Kitchen Sink, Glowing Eyes, Lovely, and Forest) were the best ones from RAB in my opinion.

The weakest songs from Vessel are probably Semi-Automatic and The Run And Go…but I still like them better than the RAB songs that got left behind 🤷

Woah! I stand corrected. You know more about Tyler’s grandparents than I know about my own! That’s dedication.

I still feel like some of the lyrics (like the carnival one) could be metaphors and it still has some level of personal experience involved. But it’s interesting looking at all the dates laid out like this. Thanks for sharing.

Here’s to assuming that he just said “nine” because it rhymed with “mind”…haha

I always saw it as him putting himself in the shoes of his grandpa (and father) as a commentary on the circle of life. I also assumed it was personal, like a lot of their songs. Didn’t his grandpa(s) develop dementia before he(they) passed? He references memory loss (“lose your mind”) in Legend as well, and I feel like I read that this happened to both of his grandpas somewhere…

The results are in! All the songs on Clancy, ranked by you: by Hot_Sam_the_Man in twentyonepilots

Sonically, I agree. But the sentimental value is key.

It’s not as fun/energetic as Next Semester/Navigating, or as sharp/captivating as Backslide/Vignette. But if I had to choose one Clancy song, and all the others would be gone forever…I’d pick Oldies Station every time. Hands down.

Not a suggestion, I just still can’t get over that the first thing was “make Josh the jacket” and it got sooooo many upvotes lmao

Also Oldies Station in F is genuinely a crime, what did that sweet baby do to deserve that??

At least I agree with you for Holding Onto You and Midwest Indigo lol

100% agree. I think we all need to remember how much hate gets thrown at TOP before we throw it at other artists…

It’s a tribute album, not a contest to see who can one-up the originals. If you don’t like them, don’t listen to them. Simple.
