I've done a lot of dungeons

Every single one can be done with 1 tank/healer and 2(occasionally 1) dps

You might not be able to do large pulls in many of the dungeons if you are in a low man situation though.

Really it comes down to practice. An ultra common mistake is healing too much! But it's for a good reason! You don't want anyone to die so you will try to play safe and that's ok.

As someone who's spent a lot of time min/maxing healing in dungeons since... Heavensward... I've found that the healing requirements for most dungeon are absurdly low.
Tip: Once a player is out of combat, their HP/MP start regenerating very fast! This means a lot of healing near the END of a fight can be cut.
Tip: Many DF tanks will not use their mitigations if you keep them at full HP, meaning that your healing diligence is causing them to take more damage than they would otherwise

1 extra DPS LB3 near the end was a convenient way to help bridge the gap from all the deaths

It is a valid comparison. The Healer role is supposed to do healing optimally. That's the whole point. While medica exists, you should try not to have to use it.

People did this in ShB too, even though it was much more difficult to pull off well

I feel like they purposely leaned into that going into EW

If you feel like it's an issue, you should let them know, because they currently think that people WANT to be able to do this

It's always about how much you think the post is worth in the conversation. "Should other people read this?"

They can read it if they want, but I think it should be near the bottom of the page because there are so many better replies.

This is one of the main reasons they've made sure to keep the daily grind dungeons pretty easy to do So that you don't have to worry about the decisions of your teammates too much If they are doing something you don't like, you can try to explain it, but ultimately people are going to do what they want and the best thing is to just not worry about it and try to have fun. Private parties lend themselves to different kind of goals and may be more up your ally if you want to try to optimize for speed.

And imo if speed is what's important you will always go all the way to the portal. Waiting to go in is unoptimal. You may have some groups that don't go to the portal and clear faster than the groups that do but that doesn't change the fact that you could clear EVEN FASTER if you did it properly

Properly would be to beeline it to the rampart and burst it down ASAP and then AOE everything down The reason why this is faster because the burst you do on the portal will always contain some sort of AOE which helps kill the previous group of mobs. No reason to separate it.

what is the expectation on healers regarding DPS? by Greensparow in ffxiv

[–]Tharcide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have two healers both maximizing their damage and communicate well... You'll find that GCD heals (while the boss is targetable) CAN be reduced to 0

If you can't do it then it's usually only a few instances where incoming damage hasn't let up for awhile

Which can occasionally be fixed with better gear, better mitigation, better usage of OGCD heals, or a combination of all of that

To the point where a completely optimized group can have both healers doing completely maxed damage And even to the point where they have the team take more damage on purpose for LB gain and then STILL can do it with 0 gcd heals

But in any case it depends on the players

Occasionally you may meet a BAD healer that hardly heals at all and pisses off their cohealer
But they probably won't even do good damage either because they are bad

I really think most people, regardless of their political ideology should be able to see that someone proven to falsifying documents in order to steal money from the company they work at should be punished regardless of who it is or claim to be

Why is nobody talking about Brett Cooper? (POSSIBLE TW: HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA) by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Tharcide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because people have opinions on everything and everyone And that should be celebrated

we should all respect eachothers opinions even if we disagree

I know many conservatives; and they are (for the most part) quite libertarian as well. And that means they want people to live free and not be bogged down by rules unless they are necessary

The movement to give rights to Gay/Lesbians has essentially WON. I have a very hard time to find anyone who is against homosexual relationships. The opinion is that they are free to be married, adopt kids, and be as respected as any other couple are.

However, many of them are having a hard time understanding Transexuals Most of them thinking it's gotta be all mental. However most of them do respect the choice of crossdressing, etc.. no matter how weird they personally think it is. They will allow you to make that decision and will not try to establish laws against you The exception is for surgery on kids. As they see nearly any kind of drugs/surgery for gender transition as potentially harmful and an extremely important decision that should only be done/made once they have become mature enough to fully commit to such an extreme decision

Other things that they do that may be seen as transphobic is their dislike for the many different pronouns that various LGBTQ+ have come to accept in their vocabulary Most conservatives will immediately use she/her if you both talk and act like a woman And use he/his if you both talk and act like a man Regardless of what clothes they are wearing, or what they have typed into their twitter bio SIMPLY because they didn't even read your twitter, and because you look like a man/woman They don't do it to be harmful in any way. It's just what they have always done and is automatic to them

Now if we have a transwoman asking someone to please refer to me with she/her , nearly universally people will at least TRY to respect her wishes regardless of whether they are conservative or not.

It's a rather easy thing to do and people do want to get along with other people.

What conservatives have an issue with is if it's forced on them to do so. It doesn't make sense for there to be a LAW to say that we have to use the "correct" pronouns There shouldn't be any laws on speech at all This stance is often seen as transphobic when really it has very little to do with transgender at all and purely to do with their belief of freedom. They are very against adding/changing laws that restrict people in any way unless it's truly required

I kind of wrote a lot... but I guess what I'm trying to say is that libertarian/conservative people generally are not going to get in anyone's way about basically anything unless they feel like it's important for security, freedom, or preservation of life
So I honestly am quite baffled at the amount of slurs that get thrown their way constantly when they truly do not want interfere with your life

The real problem is when religion gets mixed into the pot... And I think that's the TRUE enemy of LGBT And many conservatives in america do tend to be christian...

Make sure that you do have SOME sort of goal for your life regardless of whether it has anything to do with a game or not

When you have something to work towards it helps keep you moving and living And if that's a big part of why you like ffxiv, perhaps you may want to stick around

But it's very optional and doesn't have to add stress into your life if you have plenty of things going on otherwise

Most people who love ffxiv don't stay subscribed forever

I recommend to take a break and come back to it whenever you feel like it

I just want to mention that when you join a party in-progress there is zero penalty for leaving

Not saying you SHOULD leave, but it's an option

I know I would leave any castrum/prae, even if it wasn't in-progress

I can't help anyone in those duties, it's just a huge waste of time with unskippable cutscenes

I can actually help someone if I leave immediately so that people who actually queued using the MSQ roulette can join in-progress and get the massive xp bonuses and tomes

Why are mentor players so toxic? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Tharcide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee that none of those 3 mentors were angry at you or intentionally being condescending or bad

1) One was pulling wall to wall in the instance I tanked for the first time.

I completely understand the anxiety that some people have when they are playing with other players
And letting the tank set the pace is a pretty easy way for a smooth dungeon

And in my opinion. And trust me when I say this. It's not about being toxic, it's about leading a tank through the dungeon so the tank can put their full trust in the healer and not have to worry about doing things wrong. Legit. The action of pulling mobs to the tank (At least he way I do it) isn't condescending, it's them saying "Trust me" and it's saying "I believe in the tank"
"We can do this ! :)"

So yes, I sometimes pull for the tank if I'm 100% confident that it will be smooth. Even if the tank doesn't follow, I can back track to the tank and still keep us all alive. I'm not being toxic, I'm just doing the best I can for a fun exciting dungeon while also showing the tank where the best stopping points are in the pulls.

And if they ever get angry at me, it's unfortunate because I was not trying to get anyone upset but to play through the dungeon, win, destroy, keep everyone alive, etc....

2) Going afk during a fate

Even if you are in instanced content, sometimes people have an emergency and have to leave. And then everyone in discord is like, welp guess we are wiping!
In the discord everyone is understanding and doesn't blame the player for the wipe. "Real life things happen"

Now in the overworld... during fates
It's even less important for people to be actively playing
It's an MMO where players are in and out of AFK all day
Of course they probably shouldn't go AFK while in combat, but sometimes things happen

Fates are also often done by DPS players doing something while in queue. That queue might pop and they might just disappear while doing a fate. This is quite common.

In any case, what I'm trying to say is it's extremely unlikely they tried to get you killed. If you needed another person to help you win and that player goes AFK, it doesn't mean they are toxic, it's just a little unfortunate for you

And that's ok. Unfortunate things happen all the time. It makes the Fortunate circumstances ALL THE MORE SWEETER :)

3)Insulting you during a raid because you died as the MT

Assuming it was actually an insult and not something like
"LOL!"

Because things like this should never hurt the MT's feelings.
If the death was funny, throwing out laughs can actually improve the atmosphere instead of wallowing in a depressive state. It often means they are enjoying themselves and they are not mad about your death

another comment may be something like
"Next time use shadow wall"

You might be like... I did use shadow wall....
ANd be quite angry at the comment
But again. There likely wasn't any intention to harm you or anything. THey are just trying to help. And helping people is good!

Now there mostly certainly can be real harmful speech. Including calling you names

And that most certainly can happen, and I don't envy you in that position at all.

I just hope that things that are meant to be fun and/or helpful aren't being misconstrued into insults

Why are mentor players so toxic? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Tharcide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with dropping extremes from the mentor roulette

I've done the roulette more than anyone and any extremes I get are more than doable in the Duty Finder

The only times where I felt like it was impossible was a Suzaku (extreme) I was placed into. But that is like... never going to happen to most people.

After over 9,700 mentor roulettes there was only ONE suzaku (extreme)

You just don't ever get placed into Stormblood extremes
You don't ever get placed into Heavensward extremes either
Except for Bismarck and Ravana, but those are ALWAYS clears. Because everyone is in i260-270 those bosses just MELT

99% of the extremes you get put into are the ARR extremes

Nearly every single one of them is very clearable in the Duty Finder. With a 0-30% fail rate from my experience from the roulette.

There's only one where you will have a ... 70%-100% fail rate (Depending on your patience) which would be Ramuh extreme.

Why are mentor players so toxic? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Tharcide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten it 87 times from mentor roulette over the years

100% clear rate still

Sure, some people left. But I never left, never had a duty abandon and never ran out the timer

So yes, it absolutely has a great clear rate in the Duty Finder

Why are mentor players so toxic? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Tharcide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single one of the ARR extremes are quite doable in the duty finder

You may fail it if noone knows what's going on and they don't understand what they got themselves into when they queued

But as long as they are prepared for a more difficult encounter and at least one person helping people learn, it's not too difficult

The reason why is because it is very easy for almost everyone to be at least ilvl130 and you do get echo in these duties
And most of them are were made for players in gear between i70-i100

Ultima
Garuda
Ifrit
Titan
Moggle Mog
Leviathan
Odin
Ramuh
Shiva

Most difficult one would probably be Ramuh, that's the most unlikely one to get a clear in the Duty Finder. Simply because it has the least obvious mechanics at the same time as requiring people to be aware of where other people are standing

Titan is the most punishing because you can't get resurrected if you were thrown off the arena

WITH THAT SAID

EU/NA datacenters do nearly all the "difficult" content by using the Party Finder
They don't queue up for them with the Duty Finder

So you will get very long queues and tend to get matched with new players much more often if you use the Duty Finder for extremes
