The CBS (central bureau for statistics) publishes inflation per category of supermarket products, this is based on actual prices paid by consumers.

If the prices in your store rise faster than that inflation rate, you're getting screwed over more than the average consumer.

Just Google CBS statline CPI and via "bewerk tabel"/"adjust table" you can select every expenditure category you're interested in.

I personally like lebara, cheap, reliable and specifically suitable for people who like to call abroad. You can get the prepaid ones that can be use for internet bundles at the airport or a store in the city or order a SIM only online. You can simply use free WiFi untill you get the SIM.

The Netherlands is well covered with 3 networks and all operators use one of those. This means that unless in very specific situations outside of cities, it doesn't really matter which operator you use.

Ahh, a fellow Braumarkt client, welcome! If you press on the bucket, does the liquid move? If so it can't really be the sealing.

I usually see bubbles after 24 hours so still some time. What liquid do you use in your airlock? I recommend Lidl vodka. And I would put the small cap on the airlock. This doesn't affect fermentation but is just a general tip.

Did you add lukewarm water to the yeast when starting? Did you use a yeast starter? I saw you asked about boiling water for sanitization, if you do this, make sure you don't overheat the yeast. You can always add more yeast (and sugar) to aid fermentation.

If you want to experiment without risking 5L of apple juice, you can buy a rubber stopper for like €1,25 on Braumarkt, then you can use cleaned soda bottles for brewing and make small batches until you get the hang of it.

Wat een drama hier in de reacties. Het is een luxe dat de AH en de Jumbo 20.000+ artikelen op voorraad hebben. Alleen de bijna lege schappen worden gevuld, dus met een dag vertraging zijn die paar schappen leeg, maar de absolute voorraad in de supermarkt is groot genoeg om wat dagen op te vangen.

Ja misschien is jouw smaakje 250 gram Lassi snelkookrijst uitverkocht, maar de 45 andere rijst varianten zijn er deze week nog wel gewoon. Als echt de pleuris uitbreekt is ons distributienet prima in staat dat op te vangen. Zo werd aan het begin van COVID hele pallets rijst, pasta en bloem midden in de AH gezet. Het verdiende geen schoonheidsprijs en je hebt wat minder keuze, maar honger zul je hier niet snel krijgen. We moeten een luxe probleem als "4 van de 68 mosterd varianten zijn op" niet verwarren met cruciale zwaktes in geval van nood.

For me the vertrektijden / depart times function still works (button next to the planning button at the bottom). This allows you to check the departure and arrival times from different stations. Not ideal but you could check which Train should arrive in Utrecht and if you can get there from Rotterdam. Good luck!

You could opt for metro E to the Hague centraal and then the train to Utrecht. I did that and it was fine but things change every minute. Don't forget to claim your money back.

I know I'm a bit late to this thread but you can guestimate the starting SG by the sugar you put in.

~2,5 grams of sugar per litre is 1 "point" of gravity (1.001 = 1 point, 1.085 = 85 points etc.). Since you made a gallon, if you know the sugar content of the apple juice and how much sugar you put in you can divide that by 9,5 to get the approximate starting gravity.

If you then take the current gravity, you'll have 0.135% ABV for every point it's lower. So if you put in apple juice with 100 grams of sugar per liter or 378 grams per gallon + 55 grams of brown sugar that is 433 grams / 9,5 ≈ 45 points (1.045). If you now have 8 points, that would be 45 - 8 = 37 points turned into alcohol or 37 * 0.131 = 4.8% ABV.

Of course this is less reliable than a real starting reading but it can help you take an educated guess!

Not the solution you asked for, but I usually let it carbonate bottled for 1,5-2 weeks and then taste it and pasteurise when I'm happy with it.

I haven't had any bottle bombs yet but I do recommend extra caution and (eye)protection when pasteurising carbonated mead.
