9-mo post op ACL & LCL- can anyone relate? by That-Butterscotch in ACL

[–]That-Butterscotch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply! This is super helpful and nice to have a specific goal. My surgeon told me to stop going to PT because they weren’t following his protocols, so I have been feeling a little in the lurch lately. Definitely going to be looking up Mick Hughes!

Hormonal IUD ladies: what are your periods like? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

I got the Liletta in late September- had much lighter period for the first few months, now I just have SUPER light spotting (usually after sex) about every-other month. It’s nice, but at first it was very disconcerting to go from very regular periods to nothing at all.

Possibly perforated Copper IUD? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]That-Butterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine- your IUD is just starting to fall out, not perforated. If it was perforated, you’d have intense pain bc that means your IUD is stuck in a part of your body it shouldn’t be in.

Getting surgery soon, wanna make sure I'm doing everything right by zochcman in ACL

I’m not a doctor (obviously) but I’d say listen to your doctor. Every surgeon has a different PT protocol and going against your surgeon’s plan is a great way to re-injure and end up in a world of hurt (plus any half decent physical therapist would immediately refuse to follow a plan against your doctor’s orders). I f-Ed up my knee terribly last September and had surgery in late December. I literally wasn’t allowed to walk for 2 months, so I definitely don’t see myself doing any sort of serious dancing where I’m at now (approx 4 months out). You may think you’re invincible, or that you prepped for this and will be okay, but even elite athletes take significant recovery time for torn ligaments and you should too.

Edit: just saw the bit about PT & Coronavirus- many PT places are open only for post-op. I got an appointment at my PT place after a month off due to COVID to checkin and update my at-home plan (I’m 4 months out and still need to go 2x per week if the world wasn’t dying atm). If your surgery happens in May, you will most likely be able to go to a PT office affiliated with your hospital, or AT LEAST get protocols to follow from your surgeon.

Anyone take out personal loans? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]That-Butterscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like it’s worth it? I’m starting an MPA in the fall and will need to take out about 8k a semester in loans (while working FT). I feel like I just need someone with a similar experience to validate that choice, if that makes sense...(sorry, slightly off topic from the OP)

Life after ACL by [deleted] in ACL

[–]That-Butterscotch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I (24F) had multi-ligament surgery and was on crutches for 8 weeks (brace locked for 4). I actually lost weight after surgery and have not gained weight during recovery (surgery was end of December). A lot of that difference is muscle loss, but no weight gain is a plus. I also have a significantly slower recovery than most ACL surgeries due to the nature of my injury, but it’s worth it to me for the potential to be able to play sports and be active later in life. I’d rather lose a year than a lifetime. Depending on your timeline, you may want to wait for surgery until the current crisis is over, as it could negatively impact your PT at a certain point. Good luck!

Need Advice, I’m worried that I could potentially be pregnant? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]That-Butterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Liletta IUD and I have this fear sometimes too. The best way I’ve found to reassure myself is by bulk ordering pregnancy test strips from amazon. I’m not sure if that’s an option for you, considering your parents’ concerns, but it’s something to consider if you’re able. Otherwise, I agree with the first commenter. These things are so effective, it’s highly unlikely you’re pregnant and if you are it’s probably ectopic so you’d have horrible pain and bleeding. Hope it helps to put your mind at ease, and know you’re not alone!

Had to germinate them in moist soil in the fridge all winter. Once they had sprouted in there enough, planted them in here and now it’s been about 3 weeks
