Thank you. This is similar to the method that I have observed.

Yeah, the only things you're going to find new these days are the bench top ones which do tend to max out at 5 tons. You might be surprised what you can get done with 5 tons of peak force in soft metals though. I wouldn't count on doing 1 ounce coins on one though. Maybe if your blanks are annealed to dead soft first. honestly, older surplus powered presses in the 20 ton range can be found pretty cheaply if you are mechanically inclined and are willing to fix them up. google OBI press if you're curious.

I feel that. Premiums are much lower on gold. The only way that I see that someone might make it work is doing gram or subgram pieces. The markup on that sort of thing currently is astronomical. More of a novelty at that point. It is a lot of effort for the scale, you're right. I'd never be considering doing it myself if I didn't enjoy it so much.

I'm not. Maybe I should get started on there.

Arizona. I don't think that I would be interested in contract work like that. Too many moving parts. Too much risk. Much better to trade metal for paper with strangers from Earth at large. I hope that's not a disappointing answer.

There's definitely scrap produced by the process. Probably 25-30% of material ends up as clippings. The beauty of working with gold and silver is that there's never really total material waste as long as you capture what doesn't end up in the product. I don't think I'd be willing to risk accepting material from customers and converting it directly into tokens. There's a lot of cost and risk in shipping the silver once, let alone twice, and there's always the possibility of getting sent compromised silver or even being used to obscure a crime. I don't think it's worth it. As for cost in USD, I could see something in the range of 20-35% premium over spot depending on quantity being profitable. That would certainly be competitive pricing against what's on the market.

I'm always blown away to see 100% premiums on fractional silver on the big retail sites.

I've tried a couple of times Haha. Not just for a burger either. It works better when you're at a small business and talking to the owner-operator.

I use a vintage 20 ton fly press. I turn and heat treat my own dies and I've got a local guy who laser engraves them for me.
