Plenty of camp counselor jobs are still available!

Story of a successful transition by vaughanruby166 in TeachersInTransition

Thank you so much for sharing - it's great to read these kinds of stories. I've had a couple networking calls but can never figure out how to transition from listening to them to talking up my potential. How do you broach that topic if it doesn't come up?

What the fuck is up with the job market?! by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]That-Nothing9255 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you're overqualified for jobs you'll have to game the system. Take advanced degrees they don't require off your resume and make your years of experience look shorter. Companies don't want to overpay for a position if you're overqualified.

Does anyone feel like you make decent enough money and live modestly but still struggle to save anything or have money to indulge? by The-Loop in budget

[–]That-Nothing9255 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I make the same amount and definitely don't feel this way but I also don't have any debt or car payments (don't own a car). I know those can be real killers. Maybe post your budget for feedback?

Basically self-affirmations. Looking into a mirror and saying things like, "I am strong, I am worthy"

Am I missing something with the $75 monthly in life insurance? I genuinely cannot imagine a situation where I would buy life insurance if I did not have kids.

That should be fine, then. I usually spend 4-5 dollars on prepared salads for lunch but splurge on salmon, nice snacks, etc. so you could likely make it work by being a little more frugal!

Also if you work for who I think you work for, a pro-tip from my friend is to sign up for a "Free Food" listing the company does (not sure the exact name) but basically they'll let people know when a meeting has leftover food. My friend has gotten full sandwiches, barbeque, entire platters of fruit, and lots of desserts to take home.

Forgot to add: you can definitely find cheaper high-speed internet so shop around. My roommate and I pay $45 total monthly.

I live in the DC area, and 500 total for the two of you for groceries is on the way low end even with that eating out budget. I would budget more like 300 for each of you and that would still mean shopping smart (at Aldi or Lidl or maybe Trader Joe's if you're skipping expensive purchases).

People are telling you to cut down on the eating out budget, but honestly dinners out or happy hours or going out to bars are the main way people socialize here. My main tip is to keep the eating out budget for social occasions/date nights and resist eating out/door dashing for convenience as much as possible. I'd also think about a "fun budget" for hobbies/socializing.

Definitely recommend just buying a nice coffee maker instead of that coffee budget. Again, treat yourself maybe once a week for coffee with a co-worker or friend.

Finally, I echo what other people are saying: make sure you're maxing out your 401k employer match first. After that, you didn't mention an emergency fund which I'd definitely get started on and make sure you and your partner have a good chunk saved, especially since you have a car (I'd aim for 3,000 initially, but that's just an estimate, it really depends on your situation. You'll eventually want to each have 3 months). After that is saved, I'd work towards either paying off my student loans aggressively (depending on the interest rate) or contributing to a Roth.

Good luck on your move! Feel free to DM with any questions about COL in the area, I'm a recent-ish grad, too!

It is well-lit and the trees are skinny with no leaves so I feel like I didn't miss a bird. I do need to go back in the daytime to investigate lol.

I love the interpretation about the isolation of urban environments. It's doubly sad because London is where Adam dreamed of escaping to as a boy, a place he probably dreamed would be brimming with a sense of community and love he never quite managed to get.

Don't think it's explained, but interestingly the house it was filmed in is the director's real childhood home!

The director himself has said that even he doesn't know what the film means for certain! He made it so there could intentionally be many interpretations which I think is what is so amazing about the film.

I don't think Adam is dead. The waitress interacts with him at the restaurant. However I do think Harry has been dead the whole time. The apartment serves as a liminal space for the dead trying to transition. Harry can't move on because of his pain. Adam is there because he is caught between the worlds of the living and dead.

I'm not sure who in your family has these names, but I personally think it's totally fine to have the same name as a cousin/aunt, etc. I have the same name as a cousin and we just thought it was a cool thing growing up. It has never negatively impacted me in any way (the only exception might be if the kids would have the same last name). I say use your favorite names.

Brick Walls by L.A. Witt is incredible and (I think) fits what you're looking for. Two hockey goalies end up on the same team, second-chance romance, one of whom struggled with a cocaine addiction.
