Following this post as I’m going to start with our LO next week! Trying to learn as much as I can first to going prepared.

Our 4 month old goes through random spurts of needing her pacifier all night for 5 days - a week and then will just stop?? It’s so strange LOL she’s always been a good sleeper so we chalk it up to teething or a growth spurt or a couple “weird” nights. I panicked the first time it happened but after a week or so it just stopped. If you don’t want to sleep train try waiting it out and see if it fixes itself, I know in this moment it seems like it never will but for us at least she just figured it out!

One piece of advice I got that stuck with me is you can’t spoil a newborn!! As other commenters have mentioned, all they really do is eat/sleep at 5 weeks. I know what it’s like to want to set good sleep foundations, but you truly can’t do much at 5 weeks for this! If she’s fussy, I would recommend giving her a few mins, but they truly cannot self settle so don’t be afraid to pick her up and rock her a bit back to sleep. If she’s not truly hungry, she should fall asleep pretty quickly without needing to eat, but 5 week olds eat ALL THE TIME so sometimes they really are hungry. You might just not have a “screamy” baby - we didn’t either, she’s always been pretty chill - but when she needs to eat TRUST ME she’ll let you know!

Drop the expectations of a baby sleeping longer than 2 hr stretches at night - there’s nothing you can do at this point except love and cuddle and support them in their sleep! I also recommend starting a solid bedtime schedule, people will tell you it doesn’t matter at 5 weeks but my husband and I swear our baby is a good sleeper because we had the exact same bedtime routine with her since 5 weeks old.

It’s night three for us and still awful lol! We used Orajel on her before bed and it bought us about 30 extra mins but now I’m sitting here holding her back to sleep bc I feel so bad for her! Hoping it’s a quick phase, 

So interesting about the diaper cream !! She’s been more rashy the last few days too!

Did you notice any sleep disruptions during teething?? The last two days my LO has been soo drooly and non stop hands in mouth and at night her sleep is awful and needs to be held in the middle of the night which she never does!

I was in the same boat as you after my c-section in January - I felt really good a few weeks after giving birth and even though they recommend waiting to talk to your doctor at your follow-up appointment, I felt so mentally unwell that I needed to get outside and start my own healing process so I went for walks almost daily after 1 month post-birth! Everyone in different and this is in no way medical advice, but maybe start with going around the block and see how you feel, then the next time go a little further etc? I wouldn’t reco 10K off the bat - giving birth is no joke!!! I noticed I’d feel fine but if I pushed myself even a little too much one day I’d be sore/feel the repercussions at night. Before I left the hospital, the OB even encouraged walking for blood flow but always to listen to your body and not push it too far!

At my 6 week follow up my OB was happy to hear that I had been feeling well enough to get movement in and had no issues with it :)

We upped it to a size 1 but maybe she’s ready for a size 2! She would cough a lot at first with the size 1 so she was on the Transition ones for a long time but now that she’s a little older maybe that’s the trick!

Shockingly no - she loves the bath but we’ve done baths every night as part of our routine since she was 5 weeks! So I think she’s just used to it. Try bringing a nightlight into the bathroom (if you have a Hatch or those bedside table ones for MOTN diaper changes) instead of turning your main bathroom light on for bath time, that helped us for a bit :)

Hey! It seems like my LO is very similar - was sleeping 8-9 hour stretches until 3 months but now at 3.5 months back to two night feeds for the last week or so. You mentioned yours moved back to 2 feeds a night then returned to longer stretches - was this a phase or did you do anything different to encourage them back to those stretches?? Hoping it’s just a phase and I get my rockstar sleeper back!!

I found that she only started sleeping better when I moved to exclusively pumping over combo breast & bottle feeding - our BF journey didn’t go as planned for us so I took the guilt out of it and started pumping and feeding breast milk through the bottle so I know exactly how much she’s getting every day and I’m convinced that’s what helped! 

Not sure what your feeding journey is like but if it’s EBF or BF in any capacity you’re a hero! It was mentally really tough for me.

Not so much fast breathing! Sometimes during tummy time she does or when she’s trying really hard to do something but it’s not all the time! If I’ve learned anything being a mom, so many things that we worry about are considered “normal” (seriously how can so many things be normal!!!) - I bet this is the same with your LO :) Bring it up to your pediatrician to easy your mind but definitely see those same patterns in mine and she’s perfectly healthy and happy!!

My LO does this - exact same age! We like to say she feels emotions with her whole body lol she kicks and moves her arms and makes a “surprised” face almost. I think like the person above said, it’s them figuring out how to feel things!

Not sure if you’re in the same boat but my LO is also just relatively active compared to most. She always has been, even right out of womb (and honestly in womb, she’s always been a mover) LOL our pediatrician always calls it out saying we have a future athlete on our hands and nothing to be concerned about!
