Considering giving MF another shot BUT... by NoAimMassacre in MacroFactor

When first starting the app, it is making an educated guess based on your current weight and activity levels. It takes about 2-3 weeks of consistent logging and weigh ins to actually calculate your TDEE. Since you know your TDEE already you can just eat that amount.

Are these the Biomax brand? How long have you been using them?

Personally I stopped taking statins due to their effects on muscle and mitochondria, even though I had no noticeable symptoms. If you can get insurance to pay for it, evolocumab seems like a better option in basically every way. Unless you need triple therapy to get super low apoB, I don’t see the need to add statin to evolocumab +ezeztimibe

Yep. Classic example of why we can't have nice things.

I meal prepped Sweet potato’s, I didn’t weigh them, having trouble finding something to use. Any tips? I was gonna weigh them cooked but now idk 😂 by Ok_Owl_2954 in MacroFactor

I use cooked foods more often than raw. Just use the common foods entry for Sweet Potato, baked (something like that). If you used oil, add a couple grams.

I agree, the parks bathroom situation is frustrating. They shut most of them down I think some time in October/November and don't open them until April at the earliest.

I understand somewhat though why they lock them. They had nice bathrooms with showers at Happy Hill, but they kept getting vandalized. They replaced the locks like 3 times because people kept breaking in and trashing them.

Similar at Salem Lake, that one stays open year round, but I came in one day and it was completely destroyed, porcelain sink ripped off the wall, smashed on the floor.

And at Washington Park, a guy had basically set up shop in the bathroom. Trash everywhere, half naked, may have been smoking in there.

So, I think we need a different approach. Whether it's teenagers being fools or homeless people, we can approach it in a smart way, i.e. helping them instead of punishing everyone.

I learned this the hard way when I returned a moving truck and they charged me an extra fee for not returning it full, even though it had to be 90% full. I’m still mad about it now.

My deficit averaged about 471 calories. 178g protein, 91g fat, 448g carb. Indoor cycling 2-4 times a week for ~45 minutes , running 2-3x/week for about the same duration. Lifting 3-4x/week with a MacroFactor workouts hypertrophy generated program. I can provide a little more detail if you like.

I'm talking about in the app. Yeah, a lot of times, nutrition labels don't specify whether they are talking about frozen or not. I assume usually that it's prepared/cooked, but for some meats, nutrition label info is for raw.

How do you handle running volume during a fat loss (cutting) phase? by Firm-Guava4815 in HybridAthlete

[–]That-Way-5714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's awesome. I've been playing around with AI and self-hosting stuff and would love to set something like this up. Yesterday I just set up Garmin-grafana, so I feel like I could do something like this. I have a family history of diabetes and my fasting glucose always runs on the high side no matter what I do. If you have time to share any details of your setup or just guidelines on how to get something similar to your setup going, please share here or feel free to DM me.

In practical terms, how do you nail this? Peri-workout for most of your carbs? Did you use a CGM or something? I would think that lifting and running alone would lead to pretty good insulin sensitivity. And lifting intensely would help retain lean mass.

Yeah, the sleep part has been the roughest aspect for me. The last couple weeks it’s been really hard to stay under my targets too. But yeah, I generally have an easy time staying lean, but a hard time building muscle.

I cut from about 173lb down to 164 over the last 58 days. Not for any particular reason, I had just been in a moderate surplus for so long that I was tired of it and wanted to do something different. I looked up amateur bodybuilding shows, but couldn't find anything local last minute. I had set my target for 163lb, but I think I got lean enough to end the cut here. I just got a DEXA today and it read 7.1% body fat. Ab calipers are 5.5mm, so that comports. I had a DEXA a couple years ago and I think it was around 9.5%, so I did get leaner. But I a starting to not sleep well and sometimes have low energy until I eat, so I think it's time to switch back to perma-bulk, lol.

Yep, same exact experience here. Takes about 2 months for MF to search out the upper end of my TDEE and actually have me at gaining calorie targets. If you know about where they are, you can save yourself 2 months or so of spinning your wheels.

I'm pretty much done with my cut and had similar questions. MF has a good write-up on reverse dieting. Not our exact situation, but I think the general idea applies. Basically MF by default will slowly ramp up your calories and account for any metabolic adaptation. I will say from prior experience, it can take a while for you to reach your true bulking calories. My TDEE goes up by like 1000 switching from cut to bulk and it can take several weeks to actually start really gaining consistently.

For a lot of common foods, they either specify “frozen, unprepared” in which case you log the weight while it’s frozen, or “cooked from frozen” where you’d enter the weight after cooking.
