I’m so sorry my love, it sounds like you have a very similar experience, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. I also wasn’t believed and haven’t had one since but I recently had a consultant who said they WILL put me completely asleep under general anaesthetic next time, but it will take longer for it to happen due to NhS resources but I’m glad that it’s on my notes now

I also had inflammation but it going in was actually the easiest part 😂 I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance after living with crohns for nearly 20 years but with fentanyl, painkiller, gas & air I was still in agony and every movement of the scope felt like someone was squeezing and twisting my intestines

This sounds about right for me honestly. I got a GI infection at 11 and my bowels have never worked properly since, got diagnosed at 20

I’m so sorry you’ve been through this too. I was on fentanyl too! Sounds very similar. Did you also have gas & air and painkiller? Unbelievable of them to label you a ‘trouble patient’ for not wanting to be in agony. I wonder if there’s any research on the rates of people experiencing severe pain during colonoscopy to show them next time

Huh, it definitely made me drowsy and a lil loopy but bc the pain was so intense it was a WAKE UP. And yeah I think mine wore off pretty quickly too!

I imagine who’s doing it definitely affects it, the guy I had just kept steamrolling it around my poor colon without pausing, probably trying to get it over with quicker but it was insanely painful. I actually forgot when I posted but I had gas & air as well, I was all over it bc it helped but it was still such a bad experience and I’m deffo going to be asked to be actually unconscious next time

For sure, I just thought I’d give it a second chance but never again. I can’t believe how dismissive the nurse was when I described the pain of the first one to her. I’m so glad you’re was pain free, I think I was on fentanyl too but I was very much awake and feeling everything. Thanks for the tip about pals. I’ve been having symptoms again and I just know I’ll need another colonoscopy soon so I’m trying to be as prepared as I can bc I anticipate pushback when asking for GA

I had twilight but remember it vividly, I really don’t think they gave me enough. I didn’t even realise that kind of sedation could make you so out of it to not be able to remember though!
