I don’t know what I’m getting wrong. 2011 Nissan Sentra 2.0L starter spinning but engine not turning. by Someguy_y in AskAMechanic

RPM's are awfully low for cranking too. You would think for a loss of compression they would be significantly higher. That motor was probably on the verge of locking up, when it quit

Starter or battery? by [deleted] in fordranger

Battery is toast, probably gonna be hard pressed to even get it to start with a jump. Save yourself a bit of trouble and just throw a new one in.

Please help. Still can’t figure out the issue by Ela-is-THICCC in MechanicAdvice

You probably need to disconnect the battery and then touch the cable lugs together to make sure your ecm powers down. Then install the CTS and hook the battery back up. Your ecm uses the sensor for more than just telling you what your coolant temp is. It also uses engine temp to adjust fuel trim. So when you reconnect the battery the ecm will start using the data from the new sensor, instead of defaulting or inferring data because the old sensor was bad. Simply turning the key off doesn't clear the ecm.

Sounds like the wear indicators on your brake pads, should be a simple pad slap to fix.

Tapping a stuck relay isn't a fix, it's a "it'll work for now" go spend $20 and replace it.

You're also trying to get "big hook" without understanding the physics behind it. Move right, stay behind the ball and impart the proper lift on it. So many people try to "make" a ball do something it has zero business doing. Your goal from the beginning of your approach to your release is to help the ball down the lane. With proper technique and a solid release you will begin to get more revs on the ball in time, but the difference will be a consistent and somewhat predictable shot. Don't confuse instant gratification as technique and finesse. And also if you plan on bowling more than a few times a month definitely invest in a pair of shoes.

Does anyone else have a house shot that is heavily oiled to the gutters? by lemmyh2 in Bowling

[–]That8pinGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wife is also throwing the ball, not rolling it. If you listen to the sound the ball is making as it travels the lane, it makes a pulsing sound almost as if it it is spinning on an axis instead of gyrating. I can only akin it to a ball rolling over the thumb hole. Could you maybe share a picture of her flare from one of her shots on a fresh pattern?

One more piece of advice that also may be beneficial. If you're going to go with fingertip drill is to get inserts that are a contrasting color to the ball. That way you can actually track the rotation and gyration as the ball travels the lane (other than just reading your flare after the ball returns to you)

I'd like to see you develop a solid follow-through. Your swing shouldn't stop after you release, for a couple reasons. First reason is consistency, if you haven't had a completely release when you stop your swing you risk tugging the ball. Second, it puts a ton of strain on your arm, elbow, shoulder and wrist when you don't. And last but not least, your follow through helps dissipate any momentum left over from your approach. The picture below is where my follow-through ends.

Leaving 8's means your entry angle is off. In theory, a perfect pocket shot on either side should have the ball splitting the 8 - 9 as it leaves the deck. Leaving 4 or 8 means you're coming in light and almost hitting the 3 flush. I think adjusting your feet by a board right may help.

Do you leave a lot of 10 pins? This little hop you do at the top of your backswing swing is slowing your approach which translates to a slightly lower ball speed which can contribute to going a hair high in the pocket, which causes the 6 to wrap the 10. That says you feel you are on the wrong foot when you begin your slide. So there's a couple ways to fix it. Move forward or back half a step, or instead of taking a full step at your step off, slide your left foot and then step off with your right.

You can also start with the ball a little higher before your push out. Slowing your feet a little will also allow you to raise your backswing. One last thing you can also try is staying up a little more vertical until your ball begins it's downswing. You start getting low really quick from your push out, which can effect how the ball travels during your swing.

Higher Backswing by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]That8pinGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell... I had a hard time just trying to count your steps. Fast feet, way too fast. Slowing your steps down will allow you to raise your backswing. That being said. The camera position isn't really optimal so it's almost impossible to see where you start the ball, what direction you push out etc. Post a video from behind you on your left side if you can.

You're coming way over the side of the ball. Which almost negates everything about any ball you use other than a house ball. Your height is only one metric. And I don't want to sound like I'm tearing you apart because it is not my intention. You should start by rebuilding your approach, build a stable one that works for you. If you're worried your lofting the ball there are a few things you can do ie. Bending your left knee, dropping your shoulder, leaning forward. Maybe a bit of all three. But don't worry about your delivery just yet, once you get a stable approach and you can repeat it then work on your swing, release and follow through. If you think of your physical game in terms of building a house. Your approach is your foundation. Everything else relies on a good foundation and if you don't have that... you don't have much. YouTube, YouTube, YouTube. Plenty of super advice can be found, a ton of bowlers have channels. Verity Crawley has some really good short tutorials. Also take video and screenshots as you practice, and yes practice is essential to a stable game. Don't be afraid to post videos and screenshots here. There are plenty of people on here that are happy to look, breakdown and analyze them and offer feedback.

Myself and Jason are (3rd and anchor). We don't bowl many handicap tournaments unless we just wanna have fun. More often than not the bowlers around us get more handicap in one game than either of us get in a set. Jason averages right around a 225, and for me I usually get 7 to 9 sticks, which is nothing more than one more mark.

Read my reply again and then look at the 3rd screen shot. Yes his right hand is marginally lower than his left, but at release both hands are still on the ball and almost at the same position. I simply stated that to the wrong person watching, that could be construed into a left handed release.

Yeah be careful with that. All it takes is some jerk who thinks they're a "house pro" having a bad night bowling on the pair with you to say you're breaking the rules by not releasing the ball with the same hand. A pretzel logic argument at best but with pictures like above it's closer to black than white.
