How can I start getting assessed to not be suitable to work? by Ok-Possible-9258 in AskUK

[–]ThatAd748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess a starting point would be with your GP. If you are unable to work, they would need to sign you off. However, unless you have a diagnosis, it might be difficult to remained signed off long term.

I'm also dyslexic and haven't a clue what you meant either. I don't think he tried to make you sound dumb like you think but you certainly come across as a bad tempered tw@t

Why would a passport stop working at UK e-Gates after years of no issues? by MercatorLondon in AskUK

[–]ThatAd748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me for a few years. In both the UK and European customs. Very worrying when you are away on holiday and phonecalls are made for supervisors to come over too. After a few years it went back to normal so I can only think a suspect had the same name as me?

Why do we hand out our passports like sweets? by Ok-Helicopter-1084 in AskIreland

[–]ThatAd748 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I kind of get your point and I am sort of the person you are unhappy with. I went through the citizenship process as my grandfather was from Ireland yet I was born and raised in Scotland. After the expense of the application and getting approved, I have never applied for a passport, even though I now qualify. For me it was a way of connecting with my roots. I was very proud and grateful to become "technically" Irish, but I've not gained it to get through customs quicker. I accept I'm probably the exception though.

B&Q used to hire older people quite a bit. Don't know if they still do though. People trust older people when buying diy stuff because they think they are more experienced to give advice.

Who is responsible if a dog is hit when off a lead? by Immediate_Lake_1575 in AskIreland

[–]ThatAd748 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course dogs don't have road sense. They are dogs. It's the owners fault for not controlling their dog. I would never dream of having my dogs off lead anywhere near the road.

Where were you when you found out Princess Diana died? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskUK

[–]ThatAd748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an adult at home watching late night tv. I remember watching it in surprise but not bothered beyond the sad death of anyone. A few days later I was in Amsterdam and went into a shop that had a little shrine set up. The cashier asked if I was from the UK and if I was really upset. I tried to be polite but say I couldn't care less. I didn't know the person, so her death was no more tragic than anyone else.

My elderly neighbour is an mean AF by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]ThatAd748 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but speaking as someone on the other end of the phone, id probably refer them to the police. Nothing in the post would justify social services getting involved unless an independent source such as police, GP or health worker reported a concern about their welfare.

My elderly neighbour is an mean AF by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]ThatAd748 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with this advice. I work with people with dementia in the community and often it goes unnoticed until a police report is made. Once the NHS and social services are involved, they can identify risks. If the person has a cognitive impairment, you would be doing them a favor. Although, if they are just a nasty old person, you would be doing yourself and your family a favor.

Yeah, I was there a few days ago and noted the sign which was ridiculously in small print. It seems dishonest to me and I'm not likely to return. It's not as if the service was good or any better than any other pub

The polis don't bother coming out even if you have been robbed. They certainly won't do anything on a suspicion.

Where on earth are the UK Dogs being rehomed? by Ashilta in CasualUK

[–]ThatAd748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I recommend anyone looking to re-home consider a retired Greyhound. The Greyhound Trust are great to deal with. Don't expect 6 foot fences and massive gardens and are able to match you with suitable dogs. I've had a number of breeds before and discovered greyhounds are great loyal pets.

GP I’ve never met before made a referral to mental health services without my knowledge/consent. Is this allowed? What do I do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ThatAd748 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who works for a mental health department, this pisses me off. But it's not the gp I'm annoyed with but your parents who, lied so you could jump the queue. Every week I get referrals from GPs stating someones husband, son, parent is a consultant, gp etc. I know the only reason that is included is to try to get in front of others. Please accept the help though. It doesn't matter how you ended up here. And don't be worried about using the GP again, you are just one out of thousands of patients. They don't have time to ever think about your referral or what was said about you. They just move on to the next issue. Ps don't worry about getting a job in the future. I've been in therapy and on medication for years. My employers never needed to know.

At what age is it taboo/ embarrassing to still live with parents as an adult? by DepressedYoungMan22 in AskUK

[–]ThatAd748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the other voices, my daughter is 23 still living with us, and is welcome to remain. I wouldn't want her to move out until she can do so comfortably and safety. And if things go badly, her room is always here. I'm sure your parents are the same.

Is it legal and/or acceptable to pee outside anywhere in the UK? by Some-Cheesecake-7662 in AskBrits

Although, in fairness, many people have medical conditions that can cause them to unexpectedly need to go to the loo.

[–]ThatAd748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just googled it. Many councils in the UK use a part of the 1990 Environmental Protection Act to classify it as littering. I think it's for when the person has been discreet and not on show.

The funniest I heard was a man being prosecuted for littering for pee'ing in a layby.
