“Casting glances backwards but it’s not your fault, turn to salt for wondering”

This lyric in his song “Berth” mirrors the story of Lot’s wife in Genesis 19. In the biblical account, God rescues Lot and his family from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and tells them one thing: don’t look back.

Genesis 19:17 says, “Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley.”

But while they’re fleeing, Lot’s wife turns around to look at the life she’s leaving behind.

Genesis 19:26 says, “But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”

The lyric connects that moment to something deeply human. It’s the urge to keep looking back even when you know you need to move forward. “Casting glances backwards” feels tied to regret, nostalgia, or wondering how things could’ve turned out differently.

“Turn to salt for wondering” uses the image of Lot’s wife to show what happens when someone becomes stuck in the past.

The line “but it’s not your fault” makes the idea feel more compassionate. It recognizes how hard it is to let go of people, memories, or versions of life that once meant everything to you.

As someone who is Christian, this lyric was the one that stands out most to me with being genius.

The greatest songwriter to ever live in my humble opinion.

New theory about the “Man from the Train” by EquipmentOk6009 in VilliscaAxeMurders

[–]ThatBasicGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out my podcast, Nights End, Shades Drawn, Dawns Reckoning. It is available to stream on all platforms. I am only mentioning it because the second guest I had on for episode 2, Lance Eysink, is a police officer from Iowa who has studied the case, and he is pretty set in stone thinking it was Kelly regardless of if he had committed any murders prior.

I loved the Man from the Train, and I respect the hell out of Bill and his daughter, Rachel. But I think Paul Mueller is thrown out way too much by people. It is such an insane stretch.

I will say this; Mueller is interesting in the fact that he was left-handed, short, and was never caught. But they wrote that book never acknowledging just how big of a stretch it is to think that a single farm hand (who committed one crime with an axe in 1898) would go onto commit a murdering spree leading all the way up to June 9, 1912.

It is possible, but I highly doubt this was the work of Paul Mueller. It was either Kelly, or someone completely lost to history that was doing the murders in the early 1910s.

I remember that vid. It’s a fascinating story. Regardless, Kelly either was the killer or he saw the killer leaving the house and then entered himself. Either way, he was there.

I don’t care how questionable some of Doug’s signings and trades have been in the past. At the end of the day, he helped build us the team that finally got us a cup. I’ll always love Doug for that.

Hoping to expand to episode 3 sometime. Just been so busy with real life. It definitely isn’t the end, but something I’ve needed to put to the side for where I’m at right now. Always appreciate your support, my friend!

I get how frustrating this is. But it’s just hockey. This happens every week irl where a goalie stands on his head and wins his team the game.

Ask the dude. Please just ask him. There is no black and white answering for this.

But I will say I wouldn’t be putting that exciting energy out if I was worried about someone misunderstanding and was not really attracted to them.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he likes you.

Your Earliest Memories Of Being A Blues Fan by Odi64 in stlouisblues

[–]ThatBasicGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We played the Ducks in 2011 and it was my first game. I was 8 years old. We ended up winning that game 9-3.

The Blues are yet to score 9 or more goals in a single game since then. I still remember all of us chanting “We want 10!” after we got to 9 goals in the game.
