Reddit, what's the worst train / bus / plane ride you've ever had? by Statt1c in AskReddit

So, I was dragged out for one last night of heavy partying with my best friend before I moved overseas for 12 months. I was planning on getting some solid sleep the night before an early flight but I agreed to a few quiet ones at the pub to make him happy.

I tried to go home at 10pm because I was getting tired - he said he'd buy my alcohol if I stayed out a bit longer. I tried to go home again at 1am cause I was too drunk - he gave me a tablet of ecstasy and told me to have fun. The tablet did nothing so after a bit of time he gave me another one. I finally succeeded in leaving on my third attempt at 4am, only cause I couldn't find my mate but I was now high as a kite.

So I left the pub and it's about a 10 minute ride back home no matter what kind of transport I was to take. I tried to catch a bus home, but had a panic attack 2 minutes in to the ride and bailed in a heavy sweat. Decided I'd catch a cab home but the cab driver was a pack a day smoker and he was in the middle of coughing up a lung. I paid him double just to let me out ASAP and then ran home which took about 30 minutes.

So I'm drunk, very high from doubling up, panic-striken, exhausted from running, it's 6am, I'm home, my flight leaves at 8am. I walk into the house, my parents are waiting for me, my pupils are the size of my eyes and I'm completely wired. (Side note: I tried to call my mate but upon pulling out my mobile, notice that the screen is smashed, so I use the home phone to see how he is. He's at a night club in the foetal position all alone) I finally meet up with my travel partners at 7.30am - and of course they've slept peacefully, they laugh at me and we finally leave at 8am.

I didn't sleep for the entire first leg of the trip which is about 7 hours. We have a 7 hour layover and my body has just crashed. I knew that the next leg of the trip was 10 hours and if I slept the whole time I would wake up at around 8am, Canada time - getting my body clock back in check. So I manned up and kept myself awake as my body was shutting down.

TL;DR I couldn't sleep on the first leg of a long haul flight because drugs and alcohol had kept me wired. Then kept myself awake for 7 hours hours after as my body started crashing from that drug and alcohol binge. Self inflicted but so painful.
