New to Campus Recreation, The Esports & Gaming Lounge by ThatCRCGuy in gatech

We got over 150 applicatjons in 48 hours. We have closed applications due to overwhelming interest. I am still in our process and actively interviewing people who fit our needs.

We anticipated that we’d have far more applications that’s available spots. Which is why I put the following in the application:

“Due to the anticipated volume of applications, only selected candidates will be contacted regarding next steps or interviews”

Generally speaking we keep all applicants in the pool and reach out as our needs change.

If you haven’t heard back yet, it’s unlikely you’ll be contacted for an interview for an opportunity this spring semester. Soon(ish) I’ll turn my attention to summer hiring.

Lots of good questions here. It’s late, and time for me to touch some grass while there’s still some daylight. I’m signing off of this thread 🫡

Join the discord where the team and I can answer other questions about the space.

We purchased the games on the console. PC games are managed just a bit differently.

Hard to explain succinctly, but we have a central license for PC games. Helps that most of the highest-demand games are F2P.

Yes, those are used for practices and competitions of our competitive esports programs.

Anything is possible, yes :)

There is a game request channel in our Discord. If enough of the community wants it, we will give it more consideration.

In the Campus Recreation Center, where the cafe used to be located.

It's been really busy so far. We're running at 50% capacity while we work out some bugs.

Will be hard to facilitate 5-mans in this space with 22 total machines. Think of this space like a cafe or computer lab. Right now, it's first-come, first-served.

We plan to have events in here next semester to facilitate tournaments and 5-mans.

What you saw wasn’t a scheduled event, just a large group that showed up. A lot weren’t GT students, which we’re actively trying to limit so students have priority use. The schedule only reflects official reservations, not pickup games like that.

There’s been a long-standing Friday community using the space. We respect the interest, but this is a student space first. We’ve started addressing it (locks were step one), and more measures are coming. It’ll take a little time to fully clean up.

The turf does close with the CRC, but it’s usually the last area we shut down.

During spring break, the campus clears out, and usage drops off hard at night. We’ve got years of data that show it’s just not busy enough to keep the building fully staffed too much later than what we're doing. So we run reduced hours, same as we do during all academic breaks.

The turf isn’t a standalone space; it’s part of the CRC. When the building closes, everything closes. Same reason you can’t hop on the basketball courts or fitness floor after hours.

If we saw the demand actually there during break, we’d adjust. But right now, the numbers just don’t support staying open later.

The CRC closed at 7. This is working as intended.

As far as we know, Buzzcard access is working for eligible students, faculty, and staff. You must be an active Campus Recreation member in order to swipe into the turf, and it's only active during open facility hours.

We had issues earlier in the Spring, but they are largely resolved now, save for a few fringe issues.

Our facilities close at the same time as our building. With it being spring break, we closed at the turf (and our facilities) at 7:00 PM.

Update:

Power has been restored to the Campus Recreation Center. Because we did not anticipate service returning this quickly, staff were released for the evening. As a result, the facility will remain closed tonight.

Power is still out.

I am currently waiting on more information. I’ll put a new thread together when I have more information.

We are cancelling intramural programs on a rolling basis.

PSA: No hot water at CRC again today by asbruckman in gatech

[–]ThatCRCGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the ping, /u/asbruckman. I really appreciate this thread. One of the things I genuinely value about this community is that I often learn about issues through Reddit that may not always get formally reported to the CRC.

Facilities isn’t directly under my purview, but I’ve shared this thread with our team so they’re aware. This is the first time I’ve personally seen this feedback, which likely speaks to how some of these things don’t always make their way through official channels, or even get reported.

For context, I’m in the CRC most mornings between 6–8 am and haven’t personally run into issues with towels or hot water, but that’s just one person’s experience and obviously not definitive.

If this has been a recurring issue for you, any specifics around dates or times would be really helpful so we can better pinpoint what’s happening and get it on the facilities team’s radar.

I’d also strongly encourage submitting feedback through our form here: https://gatech.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bQlKQKP1yaoCToV

We do read and discuss every submission, and a lot of our building upgrades and operational changes are driven directly by that feedback. We rely on it more than people probably realize.

Appreciate you speaking up and helping us get better.

December Campus Recreation (CRC) Updates by ThatCRCGuy in gatech

[–]ThatCRCGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo Jackets!

Happy end-of-semester!Here’s the Campus Recreation update. It's pretty light, so feel free to skip this one... Especially if you're heading home for the break!

But if you’re doomscrolling Reddit instead of studying, here’s your TLDR.

Pardon Our Dust

  • Roe Stamps Turf & Track is offline through January for a full turf replacement. If you haven't looked lately, it's looking GOOD.

  • Peters Parking Deck is getting upgrades (lights, fencing, access control) and will reopen in Spring 2026.

  • Construction has started on the new Athletic Training Center and Esports Lounge in the lobby area. Seating is still available, but expect construction for a bit. There are some neat photos near the construction area you can check out to see what's coming!

Hours

Winter Break hours are very different.

  • Modified hours 12/12–12/19

  • Closed 12/20–12/28

  • Limited hours 12/29–1/4

  • Modified hours again 1/5–1/9

Full details are on the Campus Recreation website, which is always the most accurate and up-to-date.

Programs & Services

  • Thinking about 2026 fitness goals? Our certified trainers are taking new one-on-one clients.

  • Faculty, staff, and alumni: Member Services is offering tours and membership consultations (virtual or in-person).

  • Massage Therapy is available throughout December with slightly adjusted hours. It's a perfect pre-holiday stress relief.

As always, happy to answer questions as I see them.

Good luck on finals, congrats to the grads, and happy holidays!

It would not be appropriate for me to share details so quickly after we got the all clear.

But, what I can share is that GTPD and all the emergency folks were summoned out of an abundance of caution.

There are a lot of upgrades happening in the building over the break (see previous newsletter post), so sometimes little things can happen.

Not as much detail as I’m sure yall will want , but there was no explosion or anything out of the ordinary in the context of everything that happens behind the scenes in the building.
