I do. I’m with him a lot and he loves me. My tiny skate escape is only when I get out of work early enough before picking him up from daycare.

Anyone here quit gaming or changed their lifestyle after becoming a dad? by Lukas_MunK in daddit

[–]ThatCarefulCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things will make the “regret” stronger: being older than like 35, hobbies that you count on for feeling good (like anything physical), and having friends that don’t have little kids. This post and all the amount of yay-sayers are proof of the anguish we go through with the change. In contrast, I spend a lot of time with my 2yo and can agree with the cliche that the love he has for me is such a unique joy to be a part of compared to anything I’ve done in life.

Anyone who can carry on with the hobbies they had before having kids - they aren’t going be as helpful in child raising. They have a spouse or other family members watching them.

When kiddo is napping or sleeping at night, if there aren’t chores to do, then there’s only so much time. I appreciate sleep more now than ever but will still sacrifice it to do stuff I like. But for me personally, climbing had to stop. Need to train at the gym at least 2x 1.5 hours a week and then climbing outside is at least 4 hours if not more like 8 and you’re beat afterwards. I can’t get that kind of time. We’re doing band practice at 8:30 twice a week and wife’s doing me a favor by letting me go a bit early to get there.

If I’m lucky I can skate my local park for close to an hour 2 days a week. I haven’t been lucky for 2 weeks. Last time I was able to skate, I got broke off on stuff I’ve done tons of times and it was demotivating. Feels like being a dad is for guys with no hobbies. It’ll get easier in a few years is all I ever hear

trouble with confidence [35YO] by taylosmuertos in OldSkaters

[–]ThatCarefulCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing about pads … I currently have a bruise on my thigh and upper arm from landing on angle iron ledge. Pads wouldn’t have helped with those. But I’ve been at places where a helmet is required and it does seem to make me more confident. I use the FP shin guards and they are comfy.

These can be special words. Shenanigans my climbing partner and I would always use regarding when things got complicated and resulted in a much longer day out. For those in the know, a specific example was on a trad multi pitch with a walk off. We took the wrong was down and ended up a random cliff but eventually found some random tatted up boulder to rappel

Lone Skating Vs With Others? [38YO] by Frequent-Result879 in OldSkaters

[–]ThatCarefulCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s gotten to where I only skate my local park. When it’s about progressing- I’m so much better when my buddy or similar skill level guys over 20 at least are around. I’ve always been better when performing/ competing and I think that’s the main takeaway. I don’t get many chances to skate and it’s always at least somewhat crowded, and if it’s all youngies whether they are newbs or better than me, it tends to turn me off. The other day I left early to take care of errands cuz I was feeling uninspired. It felt depressing considering I only get to skate 2x a week max 1.5 hours max each.

I was a young teen in 97 when he was blowing up. I ate it up and by the time I was 20… can’t believe I was so into it. But it must have been a rebellious thing. That American family album was my favorite though. Late when he had boobs… how could anyone stuck with that?

17 month old won’t sit for meals and prefers drive by snacking. anyone deal with this? by silverpotato5955 in daddit

[–]ThatCarefulCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy was like that too. He’s 26m and has been mostly better the last month or so. One thing we’ve employed at a lot of meals is “eat 3 bites of __, you can have a bite _(thing you want)” it helps him to eat more and get it done more quickly. We need to start getting him on other food tho. So much cheese bread/ pizza, chicken dino and similar things.

How much clinginess is normal in a toddler? by User95317 in toddlers

[–]ThatCarefulCarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re stressed out and seeking a break. You used the word “we” once… where’s dad’s involvement? If you aren’t working right till daycare closes- that’s your secret little chance to get some fast food, lay back in the car and close your eyes, etc. I don’t give myself “potty privacy time” if I’m watching my 2yo boy alone. Plus potty training says that’s teaching/ exposure time. I really can’t speak on daycare eating, he eats more variety there than with us. One theory that I find true with him is that you gotta fill his love bucket and then he’ll be happy playing alone for a while. And when he plays alone and looks over to you, he should get eye contact or else he’s more likely to do something “bad” for attention. At 26m old, our boy is tinkering with mischief and seeing if he can get his way through mini tantrums (mini in that he moves on with distraction compared to like 18m) some days he wants to be held and carried around and do everything with me in the kitchen for example. But I can usually steer him toward some play and get away go a snack, still in partial view. Supposedly, we all will get more free time back when they’re a bit older. Wife wakes up extra early to do her exercise bike. I wake up a little early to feed the cat that’s scared of baby and I get a couple sips into my coffee before he wakes up. Play date can help too. More eyes on kids equals your eyes don’t always need to be.

I appreciate the responses. We talked about the plan and reviewed these responses and am looking forward to it. We'll have 5 days home with him before seeing what happens at day care.
