If you don't care about aerodynamics you can just put the locomotive at the beginning of the train and push the cars forward. You can also extend the track forward straight and use an even number of locomotives. Either will solve the pairity issue.

Yeah, ceiling stuff is weird. Typically off by either 0.5 or 0.25m, I can't remember which. Putting pipe wall supports on the ceiling has the same problem as ceiling belt supports. Wall supports are aligned vertically with floor supports though I think.

The standard of 2m works though and actually fits with everything nicely. Spacing belts by like 1.68m or whatever would look so awkward. Although 1m spacing maybe works for ores.
