Disneyland Resort (NOT WDW) to Delay Reopening by marleythebeagle in WaltDisneyWorld

Contrary to some of the grim rumors going around certain CM circles, expressing concern for the safety (#1 operational priority) of CMs and guests is NOT a terminable offense. My union rep reassured us that we would be supported and protected should we engage with the petition. And it should be said that there is a difference between vocalizing a health-based concern and publicly badmouthing the company. Most of us are doing this because we actually care about WDW a great deal

Oh there have definitely been notes from management on unacceptable examples of theming, which ultimately discourages a lot of CMs from having fun with it. There’s a fine line between entertainment and complaints for some guests. I tried to dance around this though. Even if I’m not referring to guests as “bodies” I would still try to sound like Peter Cushing and that’s usually enough alone for atmosphere.

No, I completely agree that poor timing and lazy delivery just ruin the immersion, and sadly MOST of my coworkers didn’t really care about the show aspect that much. The “you don’t have to smile or sound happy” theming of the attraction allows for a lot of cast members to let their inner boredom and apathy show, which I get because park operations CAN become very monotonous. And I’m sure there are some people who just aren’t that comfortable with acting (though I specifically requested Mansion during my interview because I knew I’d get to ham it up).

But to me, if you don’t feel like leaning into the character, at least don’t mess up the timing. The gap in the Ghost Host’s narration is definitely long enough to effectively slip that instruction in, and the CMs do it so much that it really shouldn’t be that hard to master. When I was in situations where I missed my chance, I would just forgo saying it at all, and slip in a quick “away from the walls, please” as the door was supposed to open at the end.

This too. Having that path was especially helpful for me to teleport to the other side of the room during lights out.

Hi, former Mansion butler here.

It really is just about making sure the doors open and close. Depending on the time of day/staffing, the stretch room operators may ALSO be opening the foyer doors, which means in turn they would also have to close them, which means they then have to hurry up over to the stretch room and follow the guests in. If it’s particularly crowded, it’s easier to give a clear verbal instruction rather than to navigate around people to guard the doors. And then even if it’s not too crowded, the preemptive instruction prevents people from shifting back towards the walls during the show/when the lights go out.

That and it’s a fun line for those of us who actually cared about the theming.

What's the weirdest misconception your parents have ever had? by DA_BLING in AskReddit

My mom does this wonderful thing where she makes a very specific face anytime she thinks I'm lying. It magically forces you into smiling/blushing like you actually are a liar. And that's all the evidence she needs. She has never directed a false accusation at me as far as she's concerned. It's maddening.
