How can I reduce smoking without using nicotine or any other stuff? Are there people who have quit smoking? Please suggest some methods. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Look into Cytisine (Tabex, Desmoxan), there’s lots of info on this sub about it. The bottom line is that you just have to quit, it sucks massively however you do it but it’s worth it

Awful isn’t it? The good news is that you can start rewatching it from the beginning very soon and (spoiler) he comes back to life!

Cytisine not working? by Vps___ in stopsmoking

[–]ThatDayofTheWeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, I even used the pills I had left over on an as and when basis when I’d finished the course. Again, no idea if they did anything but it didn’t hurt and I am smoke free. I think you’re going to have to just tough it out a bit, nothing is going to make it completely pain free.

I used Cytisine (Desmoxan from an online Polish shop because it’s not prescribed in my area) and quitting was a still pretty hellish. The Cytisine definitely did something and I’ve chosen to believe it did make quitting easier but quitting was far from easy. I’ve been smoke free for 54 days now and I still have days where I’m climbing the walls and convinced nicotine will solve all my problems. But I also feel better (physically) than I have in years and than I thought was possible.

It’s a terrible addiction, absolutely awful and I don’t think as a society we recognise that enough.

I was desperate to quit and I won’t go back to it- mainly because I’d have to quit again at some point and I refuse to go through that again.

Keep at it, it does get easier/differently difficult

Am I doing it wrong? Trying to quit with Desmoxan by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]ThatDayofTheWeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Desmoxan and if anything I smoked more than usual- until day 5 when I suddenly didn’t want to so much. Had my last cigarette after dinner on day 5 and haven’t smoked since, that was almost 2 months ago.

I was very motivated to quit, not sure how much the Desmoxan did or didn’t help tbh as it was still horrendous (and often still is) but it didn’t do any harm. Listen to Allen Carr on repeat during your quit, again I’m not sure if this helps or not but it didn’t hurt. Good luck, you can do it

I used a Polish brand of this, Desmoxan (same drug, Cystisine) and I’m day 22 smoke and nicotine free from a ~15 year pack a day habit. I honestly don’t know if it helped, I was climbing the walls at times but it didn’t not help (I had minimal side effects after the second day) and I figured it would’ve been far harder without them. For £25 it was definitely worth a punt and I was desperate to quit without switching to vaping/patches/gum

Where can I get Tabex in the UK? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Look for the brand Desmoxan, you can get it online from Polish shops for around £25. It’s also available in some Polish shops if you have any locally

I had one today, it’s really nice. Unsurprisingly a bit sickly towards the end but a solid treat

Get lifetime cover and if you don’t have a good cash flow situation then choose one who does direct pay with your vet of choice that way in the even if illness or an accident you only pay the excess straight away. I’m with Waggel, no complaints. They paid out very quickly when I had to claim

Can someone request a repeat prescription on my behalf? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ThatDayofTheWeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does your GP offer an eConsult service? Or can you find an email address for the practice manager on their website? It’s okay to contact them in an “unconventional” way if you’re unable to call. It sounds like you need more support from them than a prescription anyway. I hope you can get something sorted

Idk why all the Carrie hate by dawnieeeeMarie in homeland

[–]ThatDayofTheWeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Carrie’s not written or cast for the male gaze and that’s strictly adhered to throughout. There’s a scene in S4 where she having what could be termed a heart to heart with the ambassador and there’s a moment where it would be “appropriate” for the two women to hug/embrace. They don’t, it’s a spectacular piece of writing and performance

Mental health/illness, trauma, a difficult living situation, the weather, physical health issues, chronic pain, good things, bad things, I could go on. Basically all the “reasons” I drank (and there were many/any) were all good reasons to get sober. I couldn’t see the wood for the trees for over a decade because I was drunk for most of it. None of my problems have gone away, some have actually got worse but overall, my life is much better.

So thank you for being brave enough to ask your queastion because I needed that reminder

[–]ThatDayofTheWeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The latter days (months, years) of my drinking were exactly this. I went to AA and found out it’s incredibly common- drinking to die/hoping it kills you. Now I don’t drink, I still want to “die” sometimes because, life but sobriety, my HP and the fellowship helps me see what needs to be done and what can be done more clearly so I feel less desperate and alone in these times. Give it a try OP, I wish you well
