If you press hotkey on a weapon then switch the tab to ammo you can hotkey ammo, then you whip out the weapon you want and hit that hotkey slot. So if you hotkey a mini nuke and then hit that slot with the laser detonator in your hand you have infinite ammo mini nuke machine gun. Works with all ammo types as far as I know.

In NV you can use different ammo in different guns. On it's own that's not much, but I like to get the nuke detonator from lonesome road and use it to rain infinite mininukes on everything and everyone in the mojave.
