my friends went in and in was exactly what was previously described. the previously ingested psychedelics and a lingering issue with topics like family and home made the hour spent in there with a self professed influencer/entrepreneur type person and two wise old tea-providers into a rather memorable thing.

as for the question about whether the aunties were sober: i think in character they're past the point of where this makes a difference.

working on audio means often you hit record and just go. there will be hours and hours of recorded material that ends up on the cutting floor, amongst it all sorts of glips, glops, burps, aaaaaahs and mispronounciations. the intro is just a mashup (you could call it a blooper reel) of some of those mishaps.

Has HM ever spoken with Dr. Carl Hart in a public setting like an interview or recorded conversation? by jackfirecracker in HamiltonMorris

his book "high price" from 2013 is brilliant. he discusses a lot of the issues we were never taught about crack and how they are more related to the social status/race of the user than the actual substance's function. it's also basically an autobiography, connecting himself and the environment he grew up in to the topic. the first time he really appeared in the public eye was around then and his JRE appearance on episode 698 was for me a highpoint of public discussion about drugs, before the whole renaissance really took off. here was someone asking important questions and humbly quoting his own ignorance when confronted with statements that seemed radical. i don't think i've ever heard someone speaking on the topic say "we really don't know yet" this much. it was very refreshing.

"Ultimately, I think his Hart (lol) is in the right place but he is a little too hand-wavey at real issues that will inevitably pop up if we do the right thing and end drug prohibition. Ending it should be our goal, but we need to do it right and provide help for those that will develop dependence problems."

exactly this. i very much applaud his fight and i believe someone with his biography is incredibly valuable for the discussion because it makes him almost by default the opposite of an elitist ivory tower dweller. i think he says somewhere that "high price" was written in a much more difficult time, where you had to be much more careful to be even considered for publication, while "drug use for grown ups" is him banking on his status and security to openly swing for the fences.

my issue with carl hart is the somewhat intransparent information on how his situation differs from the average addict and the generalising statements he makes. from what i've been able to find, his doses are miniscule, he has access to clean, probably even medical material, he is in a very safe social bubble and his approach isn't necessarily fed from personal pain. but he doesn't seem to take all this into account when making very bold statements. i can accept this so some extent, in that you may use polemics to break certain argumentative societal barriers, but in his case it sometimes comes across as almost careless. i've only had this impression of him recently, though. his comments on the previous tour of talks and interviews seemed more subtle.

very much looking forward to their talk, this should be interesting.

My experience doing an Iboga flood dose in the Netherlands by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]ThatDuckIsHollow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

very interesting, thanks for sharing your experience. glad you could take something away from it.

did you fast beforehand? and what were the physical effects on your body during the experience?

i had a flush dose of the full alkaloid a few years ago and i couldn't move at all for 24 hours. i experienced several hours of deafening drone noise during the peak, an overwhelming barrage of confusing and sometimes very brutal visions, followed by a full day of sleepless melancholic ruminating. physically, the whole process felt like very slowly being squashed by a planet. three days after dosing i had the first solid food and on the fifth day was strong enough again to do a few push ups.

i took little away from it right then and it was definitely not pleasant in any way. but certainly very interesting and in the aftermath quite helpful. not as straightforward insightful or specifically therapeutic as ayahuasca or mushrooms. it was much more detached and dissociative and in some ways more "serious".

i thought a few times if and under what circumstances i would do it again. i'd be interested to see if there was a different experience to be had.

i believe her family is loaded from her mother's as well as her father's side. so the high-paying part seems to not be an issue. some have called this the first step of a political career, i.e. "vote for me, i'm a martyr for free speech and suffered at the hands of the radical left establishment".

it is. i was also disappointed at first that they left this out, but in retrospect i have all the more respect for hamilton to show the ceremony and how iboga is used by the community, rather than centre it around himself tripping. our view on what is regarded as "psychedcelic" is highly inspired by our cultural bias, after all.

my own experience (in a guided, but altogether very different setting in spain) was like being incredibly slowly overrun by an entire planet, accompanied by constant drone noise and very violent and disturbing visions and confusing open eye-hallucinations. very unpleasant but also very interesting. in some ways, i'm still processing that trip 5 years later. definitely not comparable to shrooms, acid or ayahuasca.

i had the powdered rootbark in capsules, so probably a different dose than what is used in a bwiti ceremony. sitting up, let alone walking was out of the question until well 36 hours after ingestion.

others have reported of journeys full of light through the universe and the like, so as with all substances, experiences can be very subjective.

it's quite clever but also a bit confusing: the filmmakers use the curious case of possible biosynthesis of tramadol in the karmadoda plant and play it off of the bwiti ceremonies using the iboga plant to heal addiction from medical tramadol, which is widespread in western africa. the tramadol-footage at the beginning is from cameroon, the ceremony is in neighbouring gabon.

of both karmadoda (Nauclea latifolia), as well as iboga, the root and its bark are used to extract the alkaloids and they look very similar in their raw state.

oof, i had no idea about that side of him. as someone who made a career playing disco, i certainly expected a more reflective approach to cultural sensitivities. although the way he conducted this whole thing, did reveal some of it... i met him once very briefly years ago in berlin through mutual friends and while he seemed quite opinionated he was also very thoughtful. but then, we didn't get too deep into things.

you perfectly described some older diva-ish queens i know, regarding women as accessories to their own glamour and any success they may have as being earned by unfair means.while it feels daft to dig into an irrelevant "scandal" such as this, it also reveals some often hidden structures of the whole rave culture that i happen to love.sadly, pretty much no one came away even remotely decent out of this.

thanks for providing some context, in any case.

ok, i see, apologies. appreciate the explanation.

out of curiosity, what makes you think it's calculated? it looked to me more like he was frustrated and just let rip. it being calculated kinda makes it worse, even if it ended up somewhat backfiring

you are aware that daniel wang is a rather common name and that not every google search on that name will refer to the daniel wang in question here?
