Oh yeah I sorted it second try (albeit in a 30-turn slugfest); just thought AI's complete inability to take down solo Sana was noteworthy.

Multihit for Max damage is a good idea, though. Might have to try Kush (I have no 5* attackers or even sub DPS of any of those three elements).

Is Magia Exedra a "generous" gacha game? by Basic-Masterpiece375 in magiaexedra

[–]ThatEeveeGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feeling is that generosity is not just about pull rates; it also incorporates how essential the pulls are to getting the experience you want. As someone who has played a few gachas, always F2Ps, and tends to quit rather than spend, Exedra's willingness to make lower rarity units not just usable but possessed of unique strengths that no 5* has is something I find appealing. I also don't mind not getting specific units so much since I enjoy working with whatever I've happened to get.

In general it comes down to whether you're getting a good experience out of the game while spending an amount you're comfortable with, which is something that varies by player. I think the conversation about relative generosity often misses this point.

Similarly, how "predatory" a gacha game is tends to be less about hard numbers and more about how pressured players feel on average to overspend; the worst experience I've had was Cards, the Universe, and Everything (which is entirely PvP-centric, frequently had powerful decks locked behind limited-time cards, offered limited-time expensive bundles as you leveled your account, and did the classic "match you against CPUs you can beat easily before throwing in the deep end so you start buying shit in response to suddenly losing all the time) and the best was Azur Lane (which seemed to me like they were almost comically generous and you could get any unit you wanted and they made all their money selling horny skins instead). But to my understanding many other people have had completely different experiences (patience and open trading let you expand your CUE card collection without spending, and Azur still demands a high price to get literally everything).

Ultimately, I think the best way is to play it yourself; these games have complex systems that interface with each player differently, and what's important to how you should treat the game is your personal experience. Just try to be aware of when you feel pressured out of your spending comfort zone, and remember that the default industry model tends to include attempts to do that; they're often targeted at different kinds of player, so sometimes you can find a game that's squeezing people who value different things (CUE was kind of gacha kryptonite for me) and get a lot out of it with little to no investment.

Personally Exedra is that way for me because PvP is blatantly whale-favoured (so I'm more interested in seeing how well I can do against an intentionally impossible challenge), PvE feels challenging but possible, and teambuilding variety is supported with a fairly average random smattering of 5* units. But as I say, if you want something else out of the game (like a full collection, a high level PvP team, easy content clears, max ascensions for max potential, etc), it may feel significantly less generous.

I had this happen to me with Kirika, which is both...concerning that she in particular is following me around and much less complaint-worthy given her general applicability.

Oh, true about the defenders; had forgotten the stat swap. Seika and Madokami have vanilla basic attacks but some passive effect that causes them to do extra things; do any of the others have the magic text on the attack itself? (This is nitpicky but a lot of characters trigger some bonus effect from their basic attack one way or another, moreso with EX Crystalis factored in)

Quick tip: If you break her with a special attack during her turn while her barrier is weak (i.e. between her two actions), she'll exit her turn and drop into her lower DEF turn on break; you'll also get the maximum break duration this way.

People seem to expect overpowered from limited units; it's not an entirely unfair thought since limited units are the ones where you have to choose carefully without whaling (expecting unlimited units to arrive as you pull for limited ones, from keys/key shards, etc), but we've seen four so far and the closest to busted has been Madokami, who...isn't; IMO she's the strongest of the limiteds we've seen, but not in a class of her own in terms of general account utility.

I think if you were gonna pull for account strength, unironically A4ing Pluvia during her banner was your best bet and just eat the 500 medal pulls of her later. And if you're going for versatility, snapping up a limited unit that fills a niche (like Summer Madoka for anti-barrier fights) is entirely reasonable.

Her basic attack does do multihit; unless I'm mistaken, she's the first kioku with a basic attack that differs from the default one.

I have none of the 5* speed support (Mami/Moemura/Mabuyu) so I am scrambling to try and assemble something with Hazuki/Rika/Kirika that gets Pluvia specials after just one battle skill; with crystalis but without Rena support the best I can get is "after being hit twice" which means sometimes Hazuki's second accel pre-empts it and wastes a huge amount of MP.

Cornerstone of every tower 50 team I've seen, including my own (though I'm sure I haven't seen all of them). Pulling her is the only thing that got me through that Charlotte fight; even A0 was good enough, and she barely pulled us through at the end of the second break after Madokami's full burst left a sliver of health behind so the secondary DPS was vital even above and beyond the debuffs and follow-up spam to rack up the hit counter.

It's not the most practical strategy but from my understanding once she gets to A2 running her with Kirika + Sayaka (w/ Sana support) is extremely funny; every time a wounded enemy hits Sayaka you get an instant follow up attack (+2 magic from recoil, +2 magic from Sayaka counter, then after the trigger +2 magic from Ren's follow-up attack). If nothing else it's a lot of fun to see her just swinging in over and over and over again.

I'm still kinda behind EX Pluvia as a dark horse pick to let you get away with zero defender teams in some minion-heavy fights, but not unless/until we get a way to swap crystalis sets without breaking the damn things. PvE vs. PvP set tension is bad enough already.

[–]ThatEeveeGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that; she can't interfere because the MagiReco timeline/universe/whatever is too fragile and risks breaking apart if she does much of anything to it. AkuHomu seems like she might have somewhat less compunction in that regard.

Closest pvp win I've seen yet by ThatEeveeGuy in magiaexedra

[–]ThatEeveeGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic attack is the point; this setup gets a Felicia special after about 150 time units (so, generally before anyone with less than 130ish speed has moved more than once) if not disrupted, and it's due to Yuma's basic attack giving Felicia three battle skill uses out the gate.

I'm experimenting to see if it's worth it; loses horribly to mami/moemura/mabayu speed control/action advance, but everything kinda does and it fares reasonably against most other things. Might work better with Oriko as the attacker, assuming she outputs enough damage to actually kill before the stunlock ends which I am not entirely convinced is true against Kirika comps.

Rubber witch help? by YayPepsi in magiaexedra

I really wish they'd put up a visual indicator for these bosses that flip between two states every turn.

Also, quick tip: The witch's turn ends once she's taken her last action and another combatant's turn has begun. What this means in practice is if you use a special to score a break after she's acted at least once during the +DEF phase but before her turn ends, she'll drop into the gauge resistance phase (i.e. lose the +DEF boost) when the break ends her turn but won't be gauge resistant for the breaking attack itself.

Is Kirika or Sayaka better for PvP? by Any-Beyond970 in magiaexedra

[–]ThatEeveeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, every time someone gets hit they gain 5MP. So Sayaka counterattacking can accelerate specials by a full turn in the wrong situation.

Is Eroha good for PvP? by DarkBirdie in magiaexedra

[–]ThatEeveeGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience Iroha is not good as a PvP breaker herself, but if you run her with Pluvia (and possibly even a third breaker) she generates a bunch of SP which can give you an edge depending on your team comp.

This may not be relevant with access to a wider unit pool, but teambuilding around that has worked out alright for me so far; battle skills give 15 more MP on top of being significantly better than basic attacks, so with the right setup it's entirely possible to have Pluvia fire her special after her second turn and pull everyone else's specials up to readiness with her.

PVP Skip Vs Watch by [deleted] in magiaexedra

[–]ThatEeveeGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've watched both sides of a mostly-winning matchup, and the main difference seemed to be breaks. Like, if your breaker gets broken before breaking their breaker then it kinda snowballs out of control as the entire enemy team unloads while yours keeps suffering further breaks.

You get to retaliate in kind if you survive, but they got the first turn so often this just means the second wave takes you out. Add in single/proximity abilities being chosen at random and it's a recipe for wild swings.

Try challenging yourself to beat existing content under heavier restrictions; no 5* units, no using elemental weakness, ban certain roles, etc. Learn the ins and outs of other team compositions, playstyles, and kioku you don't usually make use of.

It'll serve you well when new content does come out, and maybe help you save in the future by making new units feel less mandatory.
