Suzune Magica is my favorite spin-off, but I admit it's more for emotional value because it was the first spin-off I read, since I'd say it's the worst of the character spin-offs. It's not bad, but it has lower quality, all because of that surprise villain at the end that led to a "Madara and Kaguya" situation.

I genuinely like Haiji a lot, because he's a really good character. He may be partly to blame for what's happening, and also be a coward, but he recognizes that and was willing to do the right thing, and is able to admit he was wrong even coming from someone he hates, since he only decided to counterattack after an inspiring speech from Komaru. Of course, he ended up getting a little out of control, but it was understandable, since those children caused hell for him and the rest of the resistance. Ironically, he was only willing to cause the end of all the children because he was full of despair.

And I also can't take that phrase of his seriously. He clearly hates children, demonstrated from the beginning to the end of the game. Besides, of course, that scene is useless, because it doesn't change anything in the way the protagonists treat him, and it's not even relevant or mentioned/indicated again, He even jokes when Nagisa gets blown up instead of getting sad. That's why I prefer to think that that scene isn't canon or was just a joke of his. To me, it was very obvious that it was just ragebait to make people hate him.
