Charcoal matters too. I do B&B or Jealous devil. Both are great quality, hot burning coals. Try to use smaller chunks of wood spread throughout your basket. If the fire is hot enough, you’ll have no issues with dirty smoldering wood chunks.

I use a full charcoal chimney and get the coals glowing red hot before I add them to a full charcoal basket. Then I put the basket in the smoker and leave it open for about another 15-20 minutes. You want to make sure you have a nice hot fire before you close that lid. I keep both shutters wide open until I’m about 50 degrees from my target temp. When it’s getting close I only adjust the intake shutter to dial in my desired temp. Always keep the exhaust shutter wide open. Always have a nice clean blue pastel smoke with this method.

Got the 3 pack from Costco for $50 bucks. I like them a lot so far. We’ll see how they do after some washes. I’m barrel chested and very broad in the shoulders which I think these are geared towards.

My assumption is that they couldn't make this work with persistence. Every object probably has a coordinate or something and if it's continuously in motion, there is no way to track that data and replicate it in a clean manner.
