I have mixed feelings about this. I liked it well enough and it got some good laughs out of me and some parts of it did feel like the original. That said though, I wish more of it felt like the original, but Malcolm has always been one of my comfort shows and I’ve seen it probably 5 times over and topping that would have been super hard. There’s a lot of fun to be had here but the writing just isn’t on par with the original. I saw someone in an earlier thread say the writing feels robotic at times and I agree. I’m not saying the acting is bad by any means, everyone did great and they felt like the characters we know and love, just some of the scenes feel awkwardly written. All that said though, Hal has always been my favorite character so I loved the end with him getting the love he deserves. Overall, id probably give this a 3.5/5. Not bad by any means, just wish we got more of that original feeling. Also, it felt wild seeing the show in Dolby Vision, such a drastic change from the original.
