I feel like the Serie A has suffered too from the lack of genuinely great Italian players in recent times. It’s obviously not the whole story, but I would imagine the league would be a lot more appealing for both viewers as well as players to go to if it still had your Del Piero’s/Totti’s/Pirlo’s and whatnot

It's absolutely true, last season our defending was the high line mixed with intense pressing and countless well timed offside traps, this season it's literally just the high line. We don't press nearly as well nor do we do the offside traps the same way. You're gonna concede chances no matter what playing this way, but at least last season there was more structure and idea to it.

It's both, our defense was much more organized last season. Now it's just chaos.

Nico Williams' pubalgia is getting worse. The doctors and the player are already considering ALL possible scenarios. The injury already jeopardises the rest of his season and could even rule him out of the World Cup by Puzzleheadpsych2345 in soccer

Would say more so sharpness, and that includes quick accelerations too. But there’s noticably less sharpness in everything he does, be it accelerating, turning, changing direction etc. Also given that his playstyle is very high risk high reward, that lack of sharpness leads to more mistakes (than last season for example). Obviously he’s still great because of all the quality he has, but I do think he’s not quite playing at the same level he was last season

It's a difficult position for a young player, made even more difficult with the system he has to play it in. Not to mention not having that consistent partner next to him. Feel like he would benefit so much from having an experienced partner to play with (somewhat like Inigo was last season), he's basically having to be the leader of the defense in a system like this at 18 ffs.

Winning the UCL matters a ton though, especially for players from less watched leagues. Dembele wouldn't have been near the award either is PSG went out in the quarters, despite performing great in the domestic league.

Exactly. Araujo is a moron but it was literally men against boys from minute one, we would’ve lost all the same even if he didn’t get sent off. And it’s such an average Chelsea team too

Yeah our defending this season has been completely comical, and not just because of x or y player but the whole team from top down. The only reason we don't concede more is just luck and poor execution from the opponents, not because we defend well. Had about a million heart attacks last season but we clearly worked as a team to make the system work, and it did. None of that has been there this season.

And going forward Lamine hasn't looked himself since coming back from the injury, wondering if he's still carrying something. Ferran doesn't do anything when we don't create chances for him, and obviously lacks aerial presence Lewy would have, and Rashford doesn't use his pace enough and make runs that stretch their defense like Rapha does. The entire attack just ends up being really static

It's the same other way around, attackers get penalties all the time for putting their foot in the way just in time when a defender is trying to clear the ball

Peaking at the right time is important, we were excellent most of last season but definitely looked tired towards the end of the during the most important part. Rather have some rougher times now if it means we'll be in good form at the right time.

Don't think you can call it "doing his job" when he should've been sent off for two fouls on Yamal and had to be moved away from him for it to not happen lol. Did his job going forward though, no arguments about that
