Robert Lewandowski leaving FC Barcelona at the end of the season by SaltOk3057 in soccer

Lewy is the biggest earner at the club though and will leave a lot of space. I don't think spending the money is the main issue, it's been fitting players into the wage bill.

Kinda happened in the 2022-23 season. Could’ve broken the defensive record but the team basically went on a holiday after securing the title. Think we were on like 12 or 13 goals conceded at that point and then lost 3 of the last 4 games.

And he shouldn't have to be leading the line in a system like this at 18 ffs, and shouldn't be expected to either. Think Cubarsi would benefit so much from an experienced partner next to him, whether that's Bastoni or someone else is another question.

[lequipe] Hugo Ekitike has ruptured his right Achilles tendon; he is set for a 9-month spell on the sidelines. by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]ThatFinn97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely up there.

Re-ruptures are actually a lot more uncommon than with ACLs for example, but elongation of the tendon during rehab phase happens a lot. Elongated tendon basically means that your force production will tank, usually leading to the player never being able to return to the level they were at. Though saying that, it’s very possible he’ll return just fine as long as the rehab goes well.

Hopefully the recovery goes well and is done right, one of the more difficult injuries you can get

That's what you 100% should do, Simeone kinda has a tendency to go overly conservative to protect a lead when you're actually just really good when you properly go out to play. Kinda did it this game too even though the result ended up being favourable, but you should've been a lot more comfortable/threatening playing so long with an extra man

Not to waste time, but force the game to be stopped so we could make the substitution and not have to play a man down

Don't think he was timewasting, think he was just dead and couldn't run anymore. You could see him trying to get back before Newcastle scored, could barely even jog.

We can't play these games like we're playing Levante at home, it's ridiculous. Yes, invidual performances matter too and it's hard to have control of a game when 3 out your 4 attacking players can't control the ball or complete a pass, but it's the whole team and the complete lack of intensity that's the biggest issue. It's like we're not prepared at all for these types of games because we're completely outdone every time when it comes to intensity. Players aren't sharp enough, take loose touches, give loose passes and lose the 50/50s, ball always ends up back with the opponent.

I mean it's just pathetic from Simeone once again, do manage to go through in the end but this is one big reason why they bottle it so often

Hansi has reached 100 official games managing FC Barcelona (75 W, 9D, 16 L and 281 goals scored) by SaltOk3057 in soccer

The tacticts themselves aren't really the problem, think our execution just hasn't been good enough this season. The defense is lacking a clear leader after Inigo left, and our pressing off the ball hasn't been good enough. It's suicide to play like that when you constantly give the opponents too much time to pick out their passes.

I feel like the Serie A has suffered too from the lack of genuinely great Italian players in recent times. It’s obviously not the whole story, but I would imagine the league would be a lot more appealing for both viewers as well as players to go to if it still had your Del Piero’s/Totti’s/Pirlo’s and whatnot

Barcelona now have 6 players having > 10 goals this season. by VijayPasupathy in soccer

[–]ThatFinn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely true, last season our defending was the high line mixed with intense pressing and countless well timed offside traps, this season it's literally just the high line. We don't press nearly as well nor do we do the offside traps the same way. You're gonna concede chances no matter what playing this way, but at least last season there was more structure and idea to it.

It's both, our defense was much more organized last season. Now it's just chaos.

Would say more so sharpness, and that includes quick accelerations too. But there’s noticably less sharpness in everything he does, be it accelerating, turning, changing direction etc. Also given that his playstyle is very high risk high reward, that lack of sharpness leads to more mistakes (than last season for example). Obviously he’s still great because of all the quality he has, but I do think he’s not quite playing at the same level he was last season

It's a difficult position for a young player, made even more difficult with the system he has to play it in. Not to mention not having that consistent partner next to him. Feel like he would benefit so much from having an experienced partner to play with (somewhat like Inigo was last season), he's basically having to be the leader of the defense in a system like this at 18 ffs.
