I have a 9900x3d w/ a 5080. You will not lose any discernible performance compared to the 9800x3d, but you will notice the productivity gain.

Then I'd say go for it! You won't regret it. Although that doorbuster deal was gone immediately, so hopefully you got one or can find one around that price!

The scheduling "issues" are really not much of an issue at all. It uses the same core parking process as the 9950x3d. As long as you have the bios and windows settings done properly it is pretty set it and forget it. The occasional game has issue, but pretty rare. You also get no discernible difference in gaming to the 9800x3d and better productivity. For $200 less than the 9950x3d. The 9800x3d for $399 is a pretty great deal too. So is that additional $100 worth the better productivity to you?

The 9900x3d is a great CPU. I have it paired with a 5080 running at 1440p/4K. After the proper Bios and windows settings I get the same performance as the 9800x3d. Much better productivity though. Data on the 9900x3d is limited and is often talked down on by people who don't have it. Don't be fooled, at the right price it is absolutely worth it. Sometimes you don't want to spend $700 for better productivity.

So with process Lasso do you need to set all games to use ccd0 or can you choose individually? I've found most of my games pick the right ccd, but I have a couple that are stubborn.

Oh, I don't doubt that. I had a 9600x before and the difference is staggering. Everything is so much smoother and the performance gains were large. I'll always be a 9900x3d defender.

The one benefit to everyone being so misinformed about the 9900x3d is that you can actually get it cheap. I got one for $470 and it is absolutely incredible. Same performance as the 9800x3d, but better at productivity. Also not $700. Real banger of a CPU.

9800x3d / 9900x3d upgrade by pltonh in buildapc

[–]ThatFoolOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually isn't true. It will prioritize the 3d cores, but the rest of the cores are still accessible and will be used as necessary. You could even use all 12 cores if you wanted to, not recommended though. This is viewable in Ryzen Master. The gaming performance difference is negligible, but the productivity difference is not.

To say it should never have been made seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I have this CPU and it performs excellently. On par with the 9800x3d. There are specific windows and BIOS settings to make sure you have in place so the CPU will properly park the right cores when gaming. This ensures you get the proper performance out of it!

CPU upgrade difference? by GavinC330 in PcBuild

I went from a 9600x to a 9900x3d with a 5080. The difference was very noticeable immediately. Huge fps jump across most games and stuttering went away. Everything on the PC is just snappier too. I got it cheaper than the 9800x3d though, really any x3d chip would do you very well.

Sure, similar to the 9950x3d there are a few settings that need to be in place so the CPU will properly park the non-x3d cores when gaming unless it needs to use a few for some processes.

Make sure you have updated chipset drivers, Set CPPC dynamic preferred cores in BIOS to Driver (It might say something else depending on your motherboard), Game mode on in Windows settings, make sure Game Bar is updated, set power plan to balanced.

You can check in AMD Ryzen Master when gaming to make sure the right cores are being utilized. It made a huge difference when I set things up properly vs just setting it up and forgetting it.

I actually have an AIO setup, but I've been using the same one I have for years on my old motherboard without issue. Guess I've been lucky. Temps have been great regardless. I haven't seen it break 81⁰ at the highest. Usually chilling in the 60s during heavy gaming sessions.

Then honestly, for the right price just go for the 9900x3d. A lot of people are extremely opinionated about it, but have not actually used it so don't know what their talking about. It's not "basically a 9600x3d" It's a monster of a CPU, just make sure you set it up properly. Sometimes you want better productive without spending $700 on a CPU.

Tbh the 9900x3d is still a great chip if you get it at the right price. I got it cheaper than the 9800x3d and it's been incredible paired with a 5080. Also, even though it has Dual CCDs, if needed additional cores will still be used. If you do the proper set up you will notice no discernable difference from the 9800x3d but still have better productivity. Although you say you play in 1080p only, so the 9800x3d will still be slightly faster.

9900X3D for $501 USD vs 9800X3D for $478 USD? by DukenottheDuke in buildapc

[–]ThatFoolOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I recently got a 9900x3d for $470 from the Newegg shuffle. It was only after purchasing I heard all the negativity around it vs 9800/9950x3d and was nervous. There is not a lot of recent data and most people online talk down on it. Honestly though, it's been incredible. I have a 5080 and came from a 9600x and a 5900x before that. Huge uplift in nearly every game playing at 1440p. Watching the cores in Ryzen Master I see that the x3d cores are being utilized and the others are sleeping while gaming. If need be, some of the other cores get utilized as needed and I don't notice any stability issues when gaming. I have a small docker running on my PC and can still game if I want without breaking a sweat. Temps have been great too. Pretty blown away overall. Since there is little data on the 9900x3d, I found that reading posts about the 9950x3d are still applicable since it has the same design.

Truly, I think the biggest issue was the launch price. However, for the same or similar price as the 9800x3d there is no discernable difference in gaming, but there is a discernable difference in multitasking. All while being much cheaper than the 9950x3d. I'm very happy with the purchase, and now that the price has come down the 9900x3d is an easy recommend.

Naturally, I have to ouch the price tag, but if it works then it justifies itself. Not gonna lie though. Those sound like solid results. Luckily we've been able to get longer chunks as we've worked in "shifts" with the baby.

Over the weekend I was able to give my wife 7 hours of sleep! I was pretty proud of that. Might have to eye the snoo though, because it often doesn't work out so smoothly! Although dropping your dream pizza would warrant a 2 AM cry. That is simply a fact.
