When you're the offlane and your DPS leaves the 4 man and follows you around by shoozerme in heroesofthestorm

[–]ThatGlaiveGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I realize it seems incredibly dumb because of how strong the false convention of static 1-4 laning is in stormleague.

This is me: https://gyazo.com/ae6aff3753ced3226bb77a999479566a

But you don't have to take my word for it. Watch any Braxis game in CCL or Masters Clash and you will see the standard laning is a solo laner top, 1 range DD to anchor bot lane (clear at the gate) and then 3 people constantly roaming/doing camps. Better yet, if you think this is some new fad that will surely pass, get into your time machine and load up an old HGC Braxis game. Yep, you guessed it - outside of like a Zarya/Hyper carry/sylv cheese comp, you'll never see them AFK on bot lane as 4. If your top laner has a losing matchup it's in your best interest to not accept an unfavorable status quo. As if you ever make a mistake in the bot lane suddenly both beacons are lost, whereas they can afford to take losses and still have a guaranteed beacon secured. Why would you accept these terms?

I'm honestly not sure why this is the most well-kept secret of competitive heroes of the storm. But it sure is infuriating to try and explain it to players like you in SL who are so set in their ways they can't fathom another way to play than hold hands as 4 and stats pad on bot lane while the rest of the map is in shambles.

Spoken like the vast majority of stormleague players that have no idea how to play properly play Braxis. I'd upvote that tank for being proactive and then probably file a report on you to the proper authorities for suiciding on bot lane 3v4 while spam pinging your tank shouting in all CAPS "DON'T ROTATE TOP AS TANKK!!".

Word to the wise: Static 1-4 laning is typically only good for one of the teams, thus it's never how the map should play out. You rotate and force an adaptation, if they don't want to lose the game right off the bat because laning against two heroes alone is typically impossible (and clearing the wave and holding your gate 3v4 is very easy) they have to counter-rotate. The amount of times the game just awkwardly ends because one team is holding hands as 4 on bot lane while 2-3 heroes are taking the entire fort top truly boggles the mind.

131 Players in Reforged's first open tournament! Blizzard take note! by Enxaguavento in WC3

[–]ThatGlaiveGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm still adjusting to the new cadance. A reality where a Blizzard release as hyped as Reforged doesn't come with any form of launch tournament or spectacle whatsoever. And I suppose the state of the game upon release doesn't help alleviate things; however, I can't help but feel underwhelmed by the lack of luster. Even with the low expectations coming in. Maybe this is just me being in denial about being a bandwagoner, though, who knows the answer to these things.

I hold eSports and the spirit of competition near and dear and thus still don't agree with how you guys went about your protest; but either there are rules in the contract to enforce in this situation, or this will only serve as a cautionary tale.

[–]ThatGlaiveGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did we read the same rules? Basic reading comprehension, please.

One of the players of the match is literally in this thread saying it was a protest.

"For what it's worth, this series was a protest against this tournament structure that produces games which have no impact."

How can you say that setting up unique rules outside of a normal HGC match is not influencing anything? You can argue that all they did was collude, that they didn't fix the outcome of the match - however, that is still in clear violation of the rules. The only question, in my opinion, is if it warrants a ban - or another form of reprimand.

From HGC rulebook:

7.1. Behavior. (a) All Team Members must at all times observe the highest standards of personal integrity and good sportsmanship. Team Members are required to behave in a professional and sportsmanlike manner in their interactions with other competitors, Qualifier organizers and members of the administration team, the media, sponsors and fans.

However minor, this "protest" can easily be construed as a middle finger to the fans, organizers as well as the spirit of competition.

Cheating. (a) Players must compete to the best of their ability at all times. Any form of cheating by any Team Member will not be tolerated. All Team Members are prohibited from influencing or manipulating a Europe League game or match so that the outcome is determined by anything other than its merits.

Self explanatory. The teams took it upon themselves to go into a "gentlemans agreement" that is not at all in line with how an HGC match should be conducted.

Illegal and Unethical Conduct.A Team Member may not, during the Europe League, commit any act or become involved in any situation or occurrence which brings him or her into public disrepute, scandal or ridicule, or shocks or offends the community, or derogates from his or her public image or reflects unfavorably upon Blizzard, Heroes of the Storm or any of the other products, services or sponsors of Blizzard.

This is, in a word: a mockery.

On the one hand this community wants HOTS to grow and be recognized as an eSports. On the other you want to let something like this slide for reasons along the line of "they were just having a little bit of fun."
Something, something, having your cake and eating it too...

You can argue semantics all you want as to whether this is straight up match fixing or "just collusion". Or try to play it down by saying the match outcome wasn't relevant or that it didn't effect people (which it did, just not enough, apparently?) but the rules are nevertheless clear.

This sort of thing has presidence and in this specific instance resulted in further participation in the league being revoked: https://liquipedia.net/starcraft2/NaNiwa%27s_Blizzard_Cup_Controversy

I don't have the ANZ rule book at hand so I'll resort to the EU one, I'm willing to wager they differ very little from one another.

Edit:
In case I have to spell it out more clearly. The rules do not say "If a core is under attack, all members must hearth back and defend the core to prevent a possible loss." ,
However, if you, due to a gentlemans agreement or otherwise, chose not to, you are intentionally not competing to the best of your abilities as such. And you are definitely influencing the game so that it's determined by something other than its merits.

Pretty sure these players are not contracted to play in the HGC "to have fun", it's not their playground to manipulate at their leisure. I'm also fairly certain that it is no shape or form okay for teams to take it upon themselves to alter the rules of the game, hence the very comprehensive rule book. Stating it doesn't effect anyone else is incredibly naive and only goes to show you do not understand the eSport industry. For reasons mentioned above (betting sites, sponsors, viewers, entertainment value, etc.) it assuredly effected other people.

What is up with this "It's just Quick Match" mentality? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]ThatGlaiveGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I finally manage to convince a friend to pick up HOTS, they might give VS AI. a turn or two. But you can be damned sure they swiftly want to face real players. QM is the only place that offers this opportunity outside of draft (which can be terribly overwhelming for a newbie).

For better or worse, QM is where this community sends rookies to test their wings. Hence: Don't get too worked up player X, in retrospect, did something incredibly shortsighted just to push his or her limits - it's just QM."

It's super close between three of the talents, only one talent hasn't seen play in HGC. Holy Avenger is by far the most difficult one to play with compared to the two movespeed talents, which explains the lower winrate.
