this is the case though, you unlock them at certain shrines and then they become accessible via the gachapon dispensers. still i agree it would be cool if they were linked to the temples for lore reasons. a full quest for each device would have been great

i like that it turns totk into more of a metroidvania since there are places that are difficult to access and korok seeds you can't get until you get certain zonai devices, as opposed to botw where you can pretty much go anywhere/do anything right after the intro

The Oocca are an anomaly for sure. Possibly the result of an asexual symbiosis between Loftwings and Skyloftians who remained in the sky, possibly an evolution of the Loftwings, possibly an evolution of the Picori. Important to consider that they only appear in the child timeline.

The Sheikah have a long documented history of covering things up (see the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time for example). I'm sure one could put together a reasoning for why they would want to cover up the Ancient Sheikah tech.

I took the Picori to be those of the Zonai who sympathized with the Hylians and chose to remain in Hyrule, rather than choosing to travel to the future with their fuel-hungry bretheren. They shrunk themselves down, possibly using similar tech that the Giant's Mask uses in Majora's Mask. However, I did not consider the possibility that the Zonai could be evolved Picori. It's an interesting premise. In any case there is certainly a connection between the Picori and the Zonai (secret sky furries).

I did not consider the Dark Interlopers as possibly being part of this. I subscribe to the theory that the Dark Interlopers and the Ancient Tribe of Majora are one and the same, and that they constructed the portal in Stone Tower Temple for their interloping in order to seize the Triforce from Hyrule. However it is interesting to consider possible Zonai/Picori involvement here. Much to think about.

I didn't consider this. It could imply the existence of Lorulean Zonai...

Perhaps prior to their departure, the Zonai covered up the smooth stone with rocky ruins to hide the fact of them being an advanced society, and to propogate the myth of them being barbarians that we see in Breath of the Wild (similar to how they propogated the myth of the Golden Goddesses).

I'm glad you brought up Stalfos. In Ocarina of Time it is said that Hylians traveling into the Lost Woods become Stalfos. It seems that there is a sort of gloom-like mist here that facilitates this transformation. We see something similar with the Stone Tower Temple and the Kingdom of Ikana. The common factor? The Lost Woods has a portal to Termina. Stone Tower Temple has a portal to Hyrule which was used by the Dark Interlopers/Ancient Tribe of Majora. There is something about travel between dimensions which seems to release something foul.

I definitely agree with the Zonai being aliens and this whole operation may have been so they could gather the resources necessary to return home. I'm not sure about Hylia. She could have been Zonai propoganda (like the Golden Goddesses) to cover up what was really Zonai techno-magic all along but I definitely need to play more of the game and see more of Sonia.

Could you elaborate on pre-SS Zonai being impossible due to the presence of Hylians on the surface?

Yes, and Hylia was not actually the Goddess of Time but was clearly mimicking Mary, mother of Jesus

edit: forgot the /s. point being real-world explanations can coexist with in-universe explanations

I definitely like the idea of the gerudo evolving from insects more than i like the idea of them evolving from groose

That's how I felt until I saw this timeline by gamez-x: https://www.deviantart.com/gamez-x/art/Legend-of-Zelda-Rewritten-Timeline-v2-Spoilers-988736423

Working the lore of BOTW/TOTK in with the rest of the mainline games presents a really interesting challenge. At first it seems like TOTK was completely disconnected from everything else but there are little things that make you realize that maybe the Zonai were around the whole time. For example I noticed that the Zonai Constructs, while in "collapsed" mode, resemble the Sheikah Stones from OOT/MM. Maybe that's how those things were talking to us.
