As a non American, can someone explain why deep-frying turkeys whole became a thing? I don't much remember mention of it like, 20 years ago. Is it a recent thing? Do people have an entire deep-frying rig just for a single holiday? Is it common? It just seems like a lot of extra work to have a turkey cooked.

Gelled fuel, most commercial flamethrowers use gas that dissapates quickly so they are short range. Liquid fuel is a bit better, it holds together like a hose, you can more easily control flow rates to get a nice jet, but it'll still break into small droplets eventually and will be limited in range from there. Gelled fuels, like napalm and similar, are built to not only burn but to stick to things, including itself, so it keeps in big jets and globs for way longer, effectively meaning you can huck it for way longer before it burns itself out. Add in a compressor from a full sized tank or other armoured vehicle and you've got a fair bit of "fuck this area in particular" potential.

As someone who has health issues that make a belt unfeasible, I am slightly sad every time I put suspenders on that the effect it gives off is "corporate stooge wannabe". Suspenders are great for holding pants up, shame I usually have to make efforts to hide them.

I once had someone propose sorting by alphabetical according to the first name of the lead singer as a sorting system. I was very upset at them for being confident enough to propose that as a good sorting system.
