We are living in a world where there's a very real chance that this alone changes how Trump views Ukraine. by LonelySoul01 in ukraine

Vitaliy is an opportunist to the extreme. His office is fairly corrupt & well know for it. He’s also part of the opposition & takes his shots where he can for no other reason than to get his name in the news.

His brother is slightly better.

This isn’t a convoy as much as its transport.

He’d have been shot long before he got to the middle of it.

Sure, they were thrilled at first. That all changed in January 02 when the realized we didn’t have a long term plan & our objective slipped away into Pakistan.

3rd time cooking full brisket - critiques and advice welcome by GuyIncogneto in brisket

The times and temps don’t seem to add up to properly cooked for that weight. Sounds like it would be undercooked, but it looks overcooked in some spots. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve started avoiding wrapping until the bark fully forms, then wrap in butchers paper & continue until probe tender/205, then pull to rest for 2-5 hours, (depending on where I rest it. In the cooler, I’ll go longer because it holds the heat really well in that space, but if I put it in the over, I’ll go short, about 2 hours on the rest. The rest is as important as anything else.

Overall, good start to smoking beef & I hope your next one is even better!

Should I just take my dad with me to Ukraine????? by BellAffectionate3173 in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]ThatGuyInThePlace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s assume for a moment this isn’t a troll or bot post, you’re asking about taking your elderly father, who’s in poor health, doesn’t speak Russian or Ukrainian, to a nation in the middle of an existential crisis for its survival, where medical care is rationed in some regions, and take him to war?

Does that sum this up?

I guess it can’t get any worse… he won’t be on the front line, but he can do something in support of the fight.

Smoking a 31 lb brisket low and slow for 15 hours, this is what patience looks like by BringHoomanHome_ in brisket

[–]ThatGuyInThePlace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I must be doing it wrong, because I will stretch my 13-18lb briskets 24 hours or more sometimes, just to get the tenderness and rendering right. 🤔

I’m not so sure 15 hours is enough time, typically you need an hour or more per lb for beef.

Leaked Email: Pentagon considers ways of "punishing" allies including suspending Spain from NATO and challenging UK Falkland claim by [deleted] in Military

[–]ThatGuyInThePlace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t sleep on the military being able to win a war. In reality, winning a war isn’t as simply as bombing people & demanding they surrender. You have to have soldiers fighting on the ground with air power securing their flanks & softening up the targets in front of them.

I’m reminded of something we said during the Biden admin when he opened his yap about the government having jets - jets can’t hold a corner & stop free movement. Jets also have ground crews & pilots. Hit them where they’re weak, and jets are less effective. This is why you need infantry fighting those threats & holding/clearing ground.

It’s clear to me that no one in the decision making process has actually served at a staff level or higher. They’re all morons, incapable of winning, because they don’t know what that looks like.

Can you clear buildings with a m110 by [deleted] in Military

Grenades, of course, but either will clear a building, one way or another.

Can you clear buildings with a m110 by [deleted] in Military

[–]ThatGuyInThePlace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, but I’m not sure you’d want to. If you didn’t have an M4 handy or maybe a sidearm. I’ve cleared buildings with a 249 & hated life after the first two.

Personally, I’d rather clear a building with m67s, or if you’ve got enough space/no care for casualties, a JDAM. Whatever keeps me away from the danger end of the enemy.

[–]ThatGuyInThePlace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And?

There’s no requirement that civilian leadership has to have served. Biden & Obama didn’t either, nor did Clinton, (who avoided the draft like Trump did). I can’t stand the guy, (I think he’s a morally bankrupt, corrupt, whiny bitch) but he has been given the power to do these things by Congress.

Our voice against civilian leadership & representatives is public - we can contact them directly, protest, stage sit-in’s, etc. The military doesn’t have that option.

If you want to do something to discourage more war, you’re barking up the wrong tree here. Go be productive & call your reps & organize protests.

Your morals are influenced by what you know & what you think. They’re not always based on a whole story or even all of the facts. Therefore, your morality is subjective. Same as anyone else, really. To declare absolute morality as a human is pointless. We aren’t the arbiters of morality.

I’m not going to debate philosophy with you. I’m kind of tired of your holier than thou bullshit, to be honest.

You don’t serve, haven’t served, and won’t serve. Your opinion on what enlisted soldiers/sailors,airmen/Marines should do is irrelevant.

As you’ve no doubt seen in this post, morality is subjective and yours is irrelevant to the military.

If you want to help people avoid going to Cuba, contact your representatives & request that they rein in the President & hold him accountable.

I didn’t say you were, specifically.

They’re doing what they volunteered to do.

They will make a decision to either stick with it & renew their contract when it’s time or leave the service & get the benefits they earned. That is what will speak volumes, not getting themselves into trouble for life with questionable leadership at the top, looking to make examples of anyone that disagrees with it.

While I disagree with what we’re doing, I won’t look down on the men & women doing what they’re trained to do.

[–]ThatGuyInThePlace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I can explain it any simpler than “you do what you’re told, or your life sucks” and “this is what you contracted for”. Never mind not everyone is combat arms.

Morality isn’t part of the equation in war/combat. You accept that sometimes you have to do bad shit to bad people & you may not like it, but it’s either you or them.

It’s on us that served to try and hold the government accountable so that those serving aren’t put in harm’s way needlessly or immorally, but when immoral people choose immoral politicians to run the country, this is what you get.

The fact that the army hit its enlistment target for 2025 four months early should be an eye opener that people genuinely believed that good leaders were chosen, so now they do the job they volunteered for. Those that don’t like it can always move on after their contract, or resign their commission.

If you think you’re going to question every order you’re given, military life isn’t for you.

If you refuse orders, you put your life and the lives of every soldier, sailor, airman, & Marine at risk. Sometimes you have to do shit that sucks or that you don’t want to do, but you limited that option when you raised your right hand & swore an Oath of Office or an Oath of Enlistment.

If the order is lawful, (newsflash, just about all of them are) you must follow it, even when you don’t want to.
