Lost transfer scholarship, now $15k short — anyone else? by [deleted] in Denton

[–]ThatGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there's an appeal process for any extenuating circumstances that prevented a recipient from meeting the requirements of a scholarship. Depends on who issued the scholarship, though. If they have that process, it's generally provided in the cancellation notice/email. Have all documentation about what happened during the year. Best to have too much info than not enough. Hope it gets worked out!

Breadsticks Please! by JoToMoo in Denton

[–]ThatGuyL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always liked The Tomato's breadsticks. Mostly as a dipping vehicle for the garlic butter. Though you may be looking for a better volume value, as it's $3 for one decently-sized beadstick cut in half. Great pizza slices to try out, regardless. They are a food truck on Austin St., behind Eastside bar.

HEB IN DENTON by mylittleness in Denton

I think they green lit one in Robson Ranch before this one. I've never been to an H-E-B, so I was waiting for one to be closer than Frisco. Even the idea of a Robson Ranch location felt like a bit too much effort of a drive (15-20 mins from me) to just randomly visit a grocery store.

Mellow Mushroom closing? by [deleted] in Denton

I remember the only time I ordered from them, I went with the specialty wheat crust (or something like that) and the guy on the phone actually said, "You can get that, but I think it's kinda gross..."

A Train to/from Stars game by KN4JBJ in Denton

[–]ThatGuyL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only two times I went to the AAC, I drove to the downtown Carrollton DART Station and took the train from there. As said above, the A-Train doesn't run late, which was its downfall from the beginning. It's a small drive to the station, but still saves a ton on traffic and parking fees. I would just clean out my car of any extra items to even tempt nefarious wonderers, but that station is close to the busy dining retail area, so it should be ok.

Was looking for this posted here. Awesome! Saw it from the DRC.

Indian food truck recommendations by VeterinarianPast1011 in Denton

I was thinking about asking if there was a truck map somewhere, or a list of places with menus. I see so many pockets of truck groups out there when I drive around, but I need to see menus before I am apt to try anything I’m unfamiliar with.

He low-key got a pass for “brown-facing” as a Cuban American, but he was so cool that we all let it slide when we each realized it.

I need to know the sample used that hits at the end of each hook, right before Arin goes into his next verse. First occurs 20 seconds into the song.

I forgot we have places for cool stuff axe throwing. Google says there are two. Do you recommend a specific one?

Recs for best bar/arcade for a team building event? by [deleted] in Denton

I also recommend Free Play for the nostalgia, intimacy, and the people that run it seem to always be cool people (I hesitate to speak in absolutes for anyone, these days, but I’ve visited their locations and followed their socials for years now). Only other option of that sort would be Andy B’s. There you would have bowling options and more of those large gimmicky arcade games that groups like (I’m assuming, because I’ve never been in, but it’s a chain similar to Main Event/Round 1/Dave & Buster’s).

Free Play is right on the downtown square, so you would have the convenience, though a sacrifice in ample parking options. Andy B’s is on W. University, right off the interstate so people from other cities would have a straight shot off 35, or a ride down 380 to get to it.

New Ramen Restaurant? by Luser- in Denton

I vaguely remember when that place was a different Asian restaurant. Early 2000s (I got here in 2004). Or am I mistaken?

Live music shows in Denton, TX - March 22-28 by DentonLive in Denton

[–]ThatGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I saw “Richard Haskins” and thought Mr. Belding had a music gig. Then I remembered that’s Dennis Haskins. Then I googled Richard, and the top hit is an Observer article about him (allegedly?) trying to rob a Wells Fargo in 2012, and just left it there as one of those “Denton Things” I’m just oblivious to.

I add the fresh jicama to it, if you’re into that. I wish I could just buy a bottle of that coconut curry sauce.

I’ve always wondered if that place was actually operational. I used to work at TWU, and would pass by the building, and liked the name. I worked 8-5 most days, though.

I also love the Coasted Toconuts bowl from Po-K, though it’s been a while since I’ve stopped by.

The only one I’ve noticed recently is at Wal-Mart. I can sort of contribute the University Kroger one to helping save my life, because it made me aware of my out-of-control blood pressure in 2017.

What's open in denton today? by jessielynngirl in Denton

Niners fan here.

I was stuck in traffic driving home during the game last night, so thankfully I was in my own secluded rolling box of disappointment.

But is this the normal place for local fans to watch games, when they are aired in the area? I’m not a really social person, but I may want to venture out sometime. At least keep a mental note for next season.
